Maria has been working on applying for her visa for India for the last 3 days, she leaves next Saturday but it apparently only takes 4 days to get. But applying online, for the first time, has its hiccups so she’s starting to stress. She finally got a picture that would work for the application but had to go to a print shop to scan her passport because a conversion app wasn’t clear enough
Juls came down this morning and said “It’s 8:45am and I’m fully ready. Mark this in the bloody blog”. Lol. That’s in reply to a comment I made yesterday when Jay said something like “It’s 10:30 - is everyone ready” and I said “don’t look at me, if I had it my way we would have been out of here by 9”. So Juls was ready, and the kids slept in until almost 10!
Today we are taking the subway to Battery Park to either take the ferry to Ellis Island or the Staten Island ferry past the Statue of Liberty, which is free to ride there and back.

We caught the subway right at Bloomingdales.

Sophie wasn’t super excited to take the subway, but it wasn’t too jammed so she was ok. On the way back she was a trooper because it was packed packed packed.

We got off at the Brooklyn Bridge exit and walked straight into a protest about the Immigration policy of separating families.

We walked a few blocks before our first water/snack stop. It takes FOREVER to get anywhere. Lol. At one point I said to Maria that I’ve never covered so much ground in a city and seen so little.

Battery park has a water feature for the girls to cool off again.

There is a show, similar to the one we saw in Boston but not as polished or smooth, in the park. 3 guys doing tricks and flips.

The wait for a ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island is an hour long in the sun with no shade, so we decided to walk to the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue from the water and have lunch there then come back.

Steve’s been walking around with water bottles in his pocket and Maria took like 8 photos and a video...she was a little fixated. Haha

On the ferry over Maria asked if the kids were hungry and said there’s a banana and a cliff bar you can have. I said I have a banana and a cliff bar too. She said those were the ones she was talking about! Haha

We were very excited to see Bulldogs on the menu. You could only get the flavoured ones in a large (3 oz of tequila and 2 full size Coronas) so we all got mini bulldogs (1.5 oz of tequila and a Coronita).

Until Juls and Steve went for it! It’s a good thing the bulldogs were so delicious because lunch took an hour and a half to get. The server came out and said they have 70% of everything ready did we want them to bring out what they have? YES! The only thing missing was Ava’s Caesar salad, the only thing that didn’t need to be cooked!

Everyone was wiped for the ferry back.

We get in the townhouse and this is our collection of shoes.

Sophie got a hoodie with her $20 from Gram. Thanks Gram! She wore it even though it was stinkin’ hot again today.

When we got back we figured out where we have to catch the bike tour tomorrow we have booked. It says it’s 31 minutes walk, so I figure we need to give ourselves 3 hours!

The bulldogs also gave me the idea to take the blueberry mojitos I brought with us and instead of mixing it with Soda mix it with BEER! Brilliant summer drink.
Avery offered to watch the girls tonight so we went across the street to Treadwell for dinner.

Jay ordered a thick slice of bacon for an appetizer. It was a thick. slice. of. bacon.

Steve, Jay and I got flights of beer for $12.

Maria and I shared a hot dog with pickled carrots, cucumber and cilantro on it, it was delicious. And mac n cheese with chicken and zucchini fries which was way to big a portion!

Steve and Jay got the giant pretzel and it was HUGE! Steve’s hands are there for scale but you can’t really tell how big it was until the next photo of their heads!

Steve said “Man, I’m glad I didn’t order anything else...like bacon” “Asshole” Jay muttered.
Great day, great night, great friends...

Everyone enjoyed their meal with the exception of Maria. Jim and I who all ordered the shaved steak sandwich. We pictured shaved steak like a roast beef sandwich, but it was a single thin slice of steak cooked and on a huge ciabatta bun. It was awful. I had asked him if he would recommend the burger or the sandwich and he had said the sandwich, so Maria kindly told him never to recommend it again. Lol.
