Lindos

I had a little bit of trouble falling asleep last night and read my book, which Eden recommended, until about 12:45am when I decided I really should go to sleep.

I woke up around 8:45am, Maria, Georgia and my Mom were all up, Maria and Mom were on the balcony having coffee and breakfast. Georgia had gone down to Cake Box, a coffee shop and cafe, to have a coffee and use their wifi. There is now no breeze, it's humid and it's going to be a stinkin' hot day.

The plan today is to go to Lindos, walk up to the Acropolis, have lunch, go to the beach and then come home for dinner near Georgia's apartment.

At 10:42 I said to Maria "Where is my Mom?"  I don't know! So I went up to her room on the roof and knocked.

"We came to see if you've fallen and you can't get up". She was reading the blog and had to pee because she was laughing.

It was about an hour drive to Lindos I think, about 20 mins beyond where we were yesterday. When we got there we took a chance we would be able to find parking close and went down down the hill to the square but there wasn't any parking. Maria had to use the washroom so asked if she could be dropped off and Georgia got out too. As long as SOMEONE came back up the hill with me it was fine, so that left Mom. We parked the Jeep 😁

Mom started following a path which I suspected was not the path, but she said "no one is turning around and walking back this way" and "oh look, I think it's a short cut and we won't have to go down and back up we can go straight across to the Acropolis". I'm pretty sure there's a valley there Mom. So we took a few scenic photos and backtracked to the road down to the square.

As we were walking down Mom said "I think they're trying to kill us". Who, the Zambakkides? That's ok, we'll wait in the square and make them walk up to get the car on the way back!

When we met them Mom and I went to use the washroom. There was an attendant that you pay to use the washroom. When we got out I went straight up to the square and it took Mom a minute. I asked her what she was doing and she said she was paying the attendant, which I had done on my way in to the washroom. She didn't have the right coins so he made change for her. I said "you have a 50 cent right here". She said "he told me it was a Euro!" Lol.

Georgia decided to do some shopping while we climbed to the Acropolis, so we parted ways and made our way up up up. You can also take a donkey to the top if you want.

It was pretty busy and we came around a corner and I said "Ah, No people". And took a photo. Most of the early part of the walk was through narrow, crowded streets with shops. I'll airdrop some of Maria's photos for that.

We made it to the top, it was HOT, in the lower part of the Acropolis there was some shade so we stayed there a few minutes before moving up to the top where the sun was beating down hot.

More practical shoes.

This is how high above the town we climbed.

When we were coming back down from the top part to the lower part of the Acropolis Mom said "that was 75 steps" Maria said "oh yeah?!"  And I started counting aloud "68, 69, 70.." I counted 74 steps - we had both counted from the top. Neither wanted to climb them again to see who miscounted. We were standing at the bottom when I said "that looks like a boat". It certainly does. So we took a photo.

We were still up above the town and we could see all these restaurants with rooftop patios, so Maria called Georgia and asked her to find a place for us to have lunch when we got back down. She said to meet her at Dionysos, which would be on our way down.

I told Mom and Georgia I wanted to take a photo and they leaned in together. I pulled back and said you don't need to lean together I have lots of space. So then they laughed too hard.

Finally I said "oh fine, lean together".

Mom had taken a photo of me and Maria, apparently we did the same thing!

As we climbed to the rooftop Mom said "more stairs". The hostess laughed and said "That is Lindos". It was hot up there but there was a warm breeze. Our lunch was, again, delicious.

After lunch we walked up up up the hill back to the parking. I started to get the hot headache so when we got to the car we ran the AC (with the windows down, lol, you have to have the windows down in a Jeep!). As we are leaving town there is a scenic overlook. I asked if anyone needed to stop at it and no one bit. At the last minute I turned in and parked. We'll only be here once - it was a beautiful view and we were all glad we stopped.

We drove about half way home and stopped at a beach for a few hours. The street down was lined with eucalyptus trees and there was no car behind us so I stopped so that Maria could get a shot out of the back of the car.

The water was perfect, the beach was amazing - very picturesque, you can't really capture it in the photos. It was a cove with hills behind hills, the water gently lapped at the shore, it was very relaxing.

We went back to Georgia's and on the way she took us through Rhodes and to where we will catch the Ferry tomorrow to Symi.

We stopped on the way home for bubbly and wine. Mom and I went to the cash to pay and as we walked up the register the cashier closed her line. So we moved to the bigger line. Then I noticed that the sign the other cashier had put up wasn't a closed sign but was the bar separating customer purchases!

When we got back to the apartment I did a little bit of work. Georgia asked if I would like a little bit of a snack, some cheese and crackers and I said sure. She said "Finally!  I have some cheese and local grapes". She put out the cheese and it's the biggest cheese I've ever seen!  I took a photo and then decided I needed something for scale. Lol. This is not how Georgia would normally decorate a plate, but we're not guests. We've told her not to treat us as guests.

We walked to a little local spot for dinner. Pita Time.

Mom asked where the washroom was and it was upstairs. I told her to go first and let me know how it was (this is a place we weren't even sure would have a bathroom). She came back and said it was spotless. So I went up and came back down. Maria said she might wait to use it until after we eat. I said "I would go up before you have another beer. It's a tight spiral" (the staircase was a very tight spiral.

It's a good thing we climbed 31 floors and walked 11,116 steps because dinner was SO good. I didn't want pita so I ordered the gyro dinner (half chicken and half pork on the servers recommendation). I just ate the meat, onions, tzatziki, and fries (which I shared).

Georgia and I had a conversation about pronouncing Gyro, which she pronounces like year-oh but some American Greek call it gear-oh and Canadians will call it gigh-roh (like gyroscope) and she said said "Gigh-roh, it just sounds..." Dirty?  "Yes!"

We were talking about our trip to Symi tomorrow and Maria said "I should say there is a 2 o'clock Ferry..". "There is a 2 o'clock Ferry?!  Let's take that one home, no question, am I right?  Then we don't have to wear swim suits we can just wear regular underwear". We'd had some wine and beer at this point.

We walked back to Georgia's and Mom went straight to bed. Maria and I enjoyed a glass of wine on the balcony and then went to bed shortly after. We have the Ferry to catch tomorrow morning at 9:30 so we plan to leave at 7:45 to get to the port. There is still no breeze so the window is shut and the AC is on.
