The drive to the winery was about 40 minutes, its drizzling again today but not too bad, quite a bit cooler up at the winery. When we arrive there is a traditional band playing and singing.
As we round the corner they've organized almost a little market with traditional stalls showcasing different skills and trades.
I had never had roasted chesnuts before, they were good, but I didn't need a whole sleeve of them, I should have gotten just one!
Right behind Scott here, with the backpack, is Mt Etna. Lol. I pulled a photo off of the internet because we haven't seen it at all, this is what it looks like, its an active volcano.
Before 2001, Etna's eruptions were recorded at a frequency of about one every two years. Since then, Etna has erupted at least once a year. The eruption occurring now is relatively harmless, but future eruptions have the potential to be destructive (I pulled that from a website) - I don’t believe the volcano is currently erupting while we are here, but none of us actually believe it exists because we haven't seen it due to cloud cover.
Inside there are more displays, its almost like going to Pioneer Village, she is making pasta and the one below her is making bread.
The winery had a selection of red and white wines. I had a white, it was 11am. lol.
They move us inside and there is lunch. Oh my god, more food, its craziness.
With the pistaccios and sugar they're making an almond brittle with pistaccios on top.
At 2pm we take the first shuttle back - I swear some people have had 8 glasses of wine since we got here at 11am. Good news is dinner isn't until 8! HA. I'm glad we went today, the Estate was nice. A lot of the time we spent chatting with Maurice (pronounced Morris) and Isabelle outside. They're from Kelowna and we did the race day with them in Dubai 4 years ago - we were supposed to do the canyoning with them tomorrow as well but it did end up getting cancelled due to too much rain - we're leaving anyway, so now we don't have to feel too bad about it because we aren't missing our tour. All we're really missing is the dinner tomorrow night which is at a castle down the coast. Jay talked to Melissa about us changing our flight and they changed our transfer to the airport so we're being picked up tomorrow morning at 7:30am to go to the airport for our flight.
After Jay finishes his Ozard’s episode and I’m done the blog we go down to the hospitality suite and get a drink, Jay gets a coke and I get a white wine, and walk to the main terrace in the hotel to sit and enjoy the view. The sun isn’t shining, but it’s not raining either!
I get an email from the hotel we are meeting Sarah and Anthony at tomorrow asking our arrival time and if we want a car or shuttle to pick us up at the airport for 50Eu. I look up our options, it’s about a 40 min drive or we can take an hour on 2 trains and I’m guessing spend about 25Eu for trains, it’s easier just to take a car.
I got absolutely the worst manicure when before I went away. I go to Twins and usually it’s great.
Dinner tonight is walking distance from the hotel which is nice, the driving 40 minutes to get everywhere is a little crazy. I don’t get carsick but some people are having issues with the drives.
The duck was delicious! The fat on top was very thin.
The dessert was a hollow ball of raspberry sorbet, I have no idea how they made it! It was sitting on a chocolate mousse.
Ivan, who we were sitting with, convinced Jay to try espresso with sugar and sambuca in it. Totally gross. Jay said it’s better than regular espresso but he didn’t drink it all!
Back to the hotel and the walk is all uphill. When we get back Mom has sent some photos of the property and what’s been done while we’ve been gone! The material hasn’t arrived for the foundation yet, it’s being delivered on Monday. So it will be done the week following that since Kent is hunting the week we get home.
