I set my alarm for 8am this morning and woke up 2 mins before it went off. Sophie wanted to get up and go to breakfast for 8:30am and then get to the beach so I called her and she said 9am worked better for her, lol. So I called at 9 and she said she'd get up and get ready and come down. When she arrived she said "where did that Coke Zero come from?" The mini bar. "What mini bar? Paige had a Coke Zero last night and I asked her where she got it and she said she wasn't telling me" Oh really, I called up to your room and told Paige that anything in the mini bar is free to drink, lol, and told her it was in the dresser with the coffee maker on it".
Jay came down to breakfast with us, Paige kept sleeping. The breakfast was a really large buffet, really anything you could want with nice fresh fruit, pastries and yogurt. The jam is so loose it is dispensed in a jar with a pump and spout but it was good!
After breakfast we went back to the room to change for the beach. I told Sophie "I'll go with you, I want to see your room and.." "we're not switching", lol, ok, "No, we're not switching" but now I'm wondering just how much better this room is!
It's better. It's larger for sure but also on the second floor so I don't really care and definitely don't care enough to go through the trouble to switch.
What I was going to say was "to see your room and see if Paige is up". Paige was up, she was ticked we went without her and said she thought we were waiting for her for breakfast. I said if you get ready now then I'll go with her or call Dad and he will go back with you because Sophie and I are going to the beach. Then I called Jay who said "I literally just got off the phone with her and told her I would go with her to breakfast" huh, she failed to mention that.
At the beach I'm always asking everyone to put on sunscreen. I asked Sophie do you want the Neutragena that's 100 or the zinc one that's 30? She choose zinc. She chose wrong. When Jay came down I said do you want the 100 or the 30 and he said "Not that stuff it's like smearing on wallpaper paste. I might as well cover myself with drywall putty". lol
As soon as Jay arrived Sophie immediately recruited him to go for a kayak around, they ended up on the rock formations that there was a picture of yesterday because we saw some kids cliff jumping off of it when we were at dinner. Sophie couldn't get up the rock, it was too slimy. I think was the main issue, she needed Jay to help her up but he had to stay with the kayak - so I think they might try to swim out later if they're brave (if she's brave).
I want to go and do something and the girls want to get goggles, which you can't buy at the store in the resort - they sell fins and water shoes but not goggles. Also I want to pick up a lanyard or pouch for my phone so that they can take it out to the water on the kayak and get some pictures looking back at the beach - so we all decided to get changed and go into town for lunch.
Jay and Sophie went a little ahead of us and I took some time gathering my stuff, the towel to take up to the hut, my garbage, etc so as I was walking up to the elevator the doors shut - Paige was in there with a family. I decided to take the stairs up thinking it was about 5 flights. It's 7, the last 2 are a bitch. I rounded a corner thinking "this must be the last" nope it was a window and not a door for the elevator and then I rounded the next corner and it was another window and I muttered "jesus christ" and finally around the next corner was the elevator door and Paige pops out of it, alone. Now I know I did not sprint up those 7 flights of stairs so she said "where did you come from?" I took the stairs. "why?" because it's the only exercise I'll get today - where did you come from? "Yeah so I got stuck in the elevator when the family left they took a long time and the elevator closed and then it went all the way back down and then all the way back up again".
When we got to the room I had a quick shower - have I mentioned that the door to the bathroom is a pocket door, made of frosted glass? I got undressed and bent down to look under the vanity and Jay said "what are you looking for" and now I know he's looking at me through the frosted glass and I chuckled, which hea heard which meant he knew I realized he could see me - he said "I can't see details but I can see tan lines", lol. I'm looking for the conditioner that I took from the place in Rome! Do people in Italy walk around with frizzy hair? No where has given us conditioner except for the 15ml bottle in Rome - I have about half left but the Girls absconded with it later in the day so now I have none.
It's a 20 minute drive along the water mostly on an elevated road, pretty drive. For nothing.
Have you heard of Riposo? We can only assume that's what was happening in Mattinata, a rest period mid-day where everything closes. Otherwise, the town suffered some apocalyptic event where no one was on the streets, all the windows and businesses were shuttered (even the grocery store and pharmacy). In case they know something we don't we'd rather be ignorant so drove back to the beach.
Jay stayed in the room and the Girls and I went to the Beach Grill and ordered lunch, they have a nice restaurant there with light options - the girls each got the same caprese sandwich from yesterday and I got one with salami (I ate half and saved half for Jay) and sundried tomatoes. We also shared burrata and bruschetta and Paige got an ice cream treat before heading down to the water.
Jay came down and joined us in the beach and the Girls went in the water for quite a while, I'll be surprised if they don't get burnt because there was just the one sunscreen application from this morning (but really that's the equivalent of putting on a shirt). Jay poked me and said "See, they can get along" - they can, and they can't. Just like any sisters who spend A LOT of time together.
The girls were telling a story about how they were getting absolutely rocked in the waves when they were sitting on shore and I said "the undulating waves that were gently lapping at the shore?" Mom, they were big waves! "There was not a crest on those waves". They were big from our angle "Ok, well I have pictures you want to see them?" Oh, well, they seemed a lot bigger at the time. lol.
After another hour or so at the beach we came back to the room - I did some work, got the blog started, got changed and Jay suggested we go to the lounge for a drink before dinner. It's about 6:30pm and the restaurant doesn't open until 7:30pm so we go to the Reception and ask which lounge is currently open (because a lot of them close at 6:30pm) and they point us in the right direction.
The girls met us just before 7:30pm and we headed down for dinner. There is the same menu as last night and just the Specials change which are better tonight. Paige and Jay got the fusilli special with bacon and a hard goat cheese and I got a tomato based pasta that Paige was debating and just told her she can taste them both and decide which one she wanted (she decided on mine), Sophie got pasta with butter and parmesan (but no parmesan came).
While we were at dinner Sophie got an email from Laurier, she earned an annual scholarship of $4,000 a year for having an entrance average over 95% average. She has to maintain an 82.5% average each year to maintain it year over year but if she can then she gets a total of $16,000 scholarship.
Paige's main focus today was getting gelato (or ice cream), so when dinner was done she was all over ordering the homemade ice cream again. At one point she had a drip of chocolate ice cream and wiped it on her leg. I said "You have a napkin, you don't have to wipe ice cream on your leg" she said "I didn't, I licked it off my hand and wiped saliva on my leg" yuck.
As we were leaving, Jay and Sophie in front, approaching the sliding glass door Jay said to Sophie "Watch out for the glass door" (which was open) and she stutter stepped before realizing it was open already. Paige quipped "For someone getting $4000 a year you'd think you'd be smarter". Jesus that one. I feel like she's her mothers daughter sometimes, lol.
Bed time - it's almost 10pm. We are meeting for breakfast at 9am and a repeat of today except for tomorrow there is dinner in the courtyard and there will be no useless excursion to the local ghost town.
