Being the navigator is a job!

Our second day in Edinburgh we decided to...leave Edinburgh.  We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, which is included in our stay, and then walked to the car through the park where I got another beautiful photo of the Edinburgh Castle..the most photographed castle I've never been to.

This is about the time that I learned that if you plan to be a GOOD navigator, then it's a job!  You have to focus on the tiny gps - even though she is talking, and explain each turn.."so the second exit off the roundabout...which means you're actually going to go straight..ok, so...one....it's the next one, ok this one...good job".  About half way to St. Andrews Jay said "I'm done driving in this country, I'm exhausted".  He also said at one point "I'm just hugging the centre line so I don't hit whatever the f&@# is over there.." with a nod to what would normally be the front drivers side "...whether it be a wall, a ditch or people!"  So funny.

We drove through this town called Leven and there was a little house for sale so I pointed it out. Jay said "it's beside a school, we could move the girls here...but talk about remote - I wouldn't want to live here". So I googled it - it's bigger than Uxbridge and closer to Edinburgh than Uxbridge is to Toronto...so by remote I guess he just means it's not near the centre of the universe (Uxbridge).

We stopped in Anstruther for lunch at the Anstruther Fish Bar, on the recommendation of the concierge at the hotel, for what is touted as the Best Fish and Chips in the UK. It was very good...the best?  Maybe in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006 - but maybe not in 2013.

From there it was about 20 mins to St Andrews, and, shocker, Jay drove again!  But, before we got there Jay said "I think I'll have a nap on the way home.." "You can't!" I mean, did we not JUST discuss how being the navigator is a job?  "We'll never make it back!"

The view driving into St Andrews was gorgeous, I wish I had a photo, but I don't.

We parked in St Andrews and walked around the town.  I got some nice photos as we walked.

And St Andrews Golf Course

We can not complain at all about the weather we've had. Today was amazing, we were walking with just our sweatshirts on, and open so we didn't get too hot!

The drive back to Edinburgh we didn't take the scenic route and so the navigation was pretty easy!  It's amazing how quickly you get used to driving on the other side.  Being on the wrong side of the car is no problem at all...and I've only driven on the wrong side of the road once! (Making my way over to make a right hand turn, which is like a left turn at home, you should be in the centre of the road!). We both agreed we were happy we went to St. Andrews today...actually what Jay said was "I'm glad we went to St Andrews today...if I was given a choice I would gladly go to St Andrews instead of staying in Edinburgh". I said "you were given a choice and did choose to go to St. Andrews today instead of staying in Edinburgh.." (Loser).

We got back around 5:00 and I went for a walk to do some shopping while Jay napped. He's still napping, I'm back from shopping and I'll give him another 30 mins or so before I drag him out to Jamie Oliver's restaurant down the street for Italian.

Tomorrow we're off to Inverness after breakfast!
