Buggy Tour and Los Suenos - Day 6

The plan for today was to drive to just outside of Quepos and go to the Naucaya Waterfall, Jill's teaching friend is down here as well and staying near there so we were meeting Maureen and her husband, Greg, for the hike as well.

Last night we did some mapping out of the waterfall and its location and its about an 1h45m drive from the house, then its a 1hr15m hike in to the waterfall - some reviews said that it was a difficult hike and some that it was a moderate hike.  There was an option to take either horses or a truck in to the falls as well.  Sophie wasn't very happy about having to drive almost 2 hours to get to the falls, she gets car sick, so this morning when we woke up I talked to Jay about instead doing a buggy tour through a company in town that offered only private tours for a reasonable price to a local waterfall.  So we talked to the girls then let Jill, Trev and Ava know that we were going to skip the trip today to Quepos.

We got ourselves sorted, communicated with the tour company, and were down there for 8am at the meeting place in Jaco.  By 8:15am we were on our way, for an extra $5 we could get buffs to help with the dust in our faces.

The drive in was really pretty and would be spectacular in the shoulder season when everything is still really green.  We drove a mix of dirt roads and small tracks and dry riverbeds before we started to climb up the mountain.

We stopped on the road beside this tiny waterfall, I don't think that our guide, Willy, planned to stop here specifically, he just wanted to give us some instruction that we would be heading up on this road for about another 15 minutes.

We drove up until we got to the top and stopped at a property that had 360 degree views over the valley to one side and the ocean to the other.

We went from there down into a community and into a little valley to Jaco Falls.

Jaco Falls was less than impressive.  The tour is called Waterfall Jumper 3 hr tour...the water here was about waist deep and there's no way you could jump into it, lol.  It is dry season - but when I asked Willy how many other waterfalls we would see he said "this is it".

The water was nice, but a little chilly - refreshing, but colder than we have had in the ocean or pool this week.

Good lord, on the way down to the waterfall Willy pointed out this tiny snake that looked like a stick and Sophie lost her mind and climbed up me and jumped on my back, hyperventilating - she doesn't like snakes.  (Later, in the middle of the night she woke with a nightmare that woke everyone in the house - Jay decided to sleep with her last night because our bed is too soft, so she woke screaming that there was something on him "Daddy, Daddy, there's something on you!!  AHHHHHHHHHH"  She was terrified..we might take her to talk to some one about this fear.)

After the waterfall Willy took us to a little cafe that sells drinks, the girls shared a pineapple smoothie (essentially fresh pineapple, water and sugar) and Jay had a Coca Light and we got some selfies of how dirty we are!

Ok, mostly me because I was wearing my sunglasses instead of my goggles, like the girls - and as we were doing a selfie, below, Jay was trying to get in it as well but we kept moving closer together :)

The way back was the same route as the way up with the exception of some of the riverbeds still had water in them, so Willy took my camera and said to wait until he gave the signal and hit the gas.  At this point Jay was in the back and the two girls were in the front with me (I drove because Jay didn't have his wallet on him).  When we hit the water it all poured over the top of the car like a zoombaflume.  I have a video and all you can hear the whole thing is me laughing!

We hit one more deep spot and got completely soaked on that one!  We weren't expecting to be soaked but had brought towels to go in the waterfall, which we didn't, so were still prepared.

After the tour we went back to the house to change into dry clothes and decide what we wanted to do for lunch.  The girls just wanted to stay at the house but Jay wanted to go out, so I looked up restaurants and there was a well rated one in Los Suenos in Playa Herradura, about 15 minutes North of us, so we went there.  It looks over the marina at Los Suenos, which is a resort community with a Marriott hotel that I had looked at booking a house in as well when we were down there.  The resort hosts a fishing tournament 3 weekends a year called the Triple Crown, I looked up the entry fee because they showed the tournament on a big screen over the bar while we were there - the 3rd place finisher won $26,000 USD, second $39,000 and the first place won $65,000USD - the entry fee is $10,300 USD per weekend or $20,900 if you sign up for all 3 weekends.

There were probably 100 fishing yaghts or more in the marina that the restaurant overlooked.

I had a mint lemonade and a shrimp po'boy sandwich for lunch which was amazing - one of the things I love about CR is that the food is always SO good, from the local restaurants to more tourist focussed everything is fresh and delicious!

I was trying to explain to Paige how to smile in a photo without it seeming too fake.  How did I do? lol

Paige thought it would be funny to mix up the hot sauce order in the organizer...bad. idea.

My feet are SO swollen from the humidity here, this is just after lunch, before I got in the pool for the afternoon with the girls and then read in the air chair with my feet up.  My left foot is way more swollen than my right.

This is the next morning, more the way that my feet should look, but still a little puffy!

Around 4:00pm, when we were expecting Trev, Jill and Ava back from their adventure to Quepos Jay looked at his Garmin app and saw that it had taken them about 4 hours in total to walk into and out of the waterfall, they had started about 10:20am (the goal was to be there by about 9am but it took them longer to drive than they thought and then longer to walk than they thought as well).  Even with the extra time they all said they had a good time.  About 5:00pm we got a text from Trev that said they would be home in about 90 minutes.  I called just before 6pm to make sure they had eaten already and tell them we were going to go out to to dinner.

Once we decided where we were going, Ohana Sushi, I sent them a message saying where we would be and they ended up meeting us there.

Once again, delicious.

When we got back home we went to bed. Lol.

Day 6 - Tour of a local Island

I set my alarm for 8am today because Jay and I have booked a tour to a local island by speed boat and it leaves around 10am.  I wake up ever...
