Jay and I checked in to the Lufthanza desk and while we were dropping our baggage off Jay must have done something because I can hear him beside me say "Shiesse" (thank you Matt Harding for adding that to his vocabulary years ago)..I don't think the German representative heard him but I thought it was funny!
The representative asked me if there was another member in our party, I said yes Mark Ber, but he's not here he'll be checking in separately later..Jay said "He'll probably arrive 15 minutes before the flight is ready to leave", joking - but the girls eyes got wide for a moment. Check in was easy and we were off to the Maple Leaf Lounge to wait for Mark to arrive and have a drink. Mark was actually pretty quick, I had only gotten through half my glass of wine before he arrived - way to go Mark!
I went to get a glass of wine and there was a guy in front of me filling up a tiny little wine glass, like tiny, and right beside it was beer glasses on a pedestal - so I said to him "aren't these the wine glasses?" He looked at me sideways and chuckled..but shamed me into using the tiny little wine glass..lol.
We had an awesome flight to Munich, my goal was to stay up for a few hours on the overnight flight (we departed at 11:05pm) and then sleep for 3 - 4 hours and get up so that hopefully when we land I can stay awake the rest of the day and I'll be able to fall asleep at 10-11pm Croatia time (4-5pm home time). So I got on the plane and looked through the movies and decided to watch Dead Pool - OMG, it might be a Marvel movie but it is NOT appropriate for teens - hilarious but dirty!
I watched the whole movie and then went to sleep, I put my seat right down into a bed, lay my head on the comfy pillow, covered my self up with the quilt (yes quilt, not fleece blanket) put the eye mask on and went to sleep for 4 hours. Jay woke me up at 4:30am home time letting me know that I'd been sleeping for 4 hours - I got up and breakfast was just about to be served, so I watched another movie before we landed and the timing was perfect. We were talking later and Jay said "I wasn't sure if I should wake you up or not, what I would be risking" - "I woke up ok!" - "You DID! But it was like poking a bear, I don't know what I'm going to get"! Very true, but I woke up like a dream...probably because I told him to wake me, he just didn't decide on his own.
Mark, several times today, has asked me stuff about our trip - which seat is he in (on the aisle across from Jay on both flights), what kind of car are we getting (Audi Q3), where are we staying and for how long in each place (are you kidding me?!). lol. He just took advantage of the travel planner and didn't worry about too much else (my kind of travel companion to be honest!).
We had an hour and a half layover in Munich so made our way to the gate for our next flight to Dubrovnik. Right across from our gate lounge was an enclosed smoking lounge sponsored by Winston. There were two or three big posters in the lounge advertising Winston with pictures of a cigarette package with huge letters on it that read SMOKING KILLS. Idiots.
We landed and got off the plane, picked up our baggage and went to the Sixt rental car counter, got the car (first in line, which was good because it took 25 minutes to get the car and there was a long line behind us by the time we were finished), had the representative put the address for the condo in the GPS for us so we know the format of how to use it and headed off. I called Nela, the condo owner, to let her know we're on our way and off we went.
This is our view from the balcony of the unit.
Some photos of the condo (from the website because I always forget to take photos before we drop our crap all over), it's only $206 USD per night!
We are about a 20 minute walk to the Old Town Dubrovnik so after so long sitting all day we all shower and walk down there to have dinner. Mark said he would have the last shower when we were getting ready and I said "No offence, but you take the longest to get ready out of all of us, so why don't you go first!"
We walked down along the water and saw 3 nice little restaurants by the water just outside the Old Town gates so sat down at one of them "Dubrovka" and ordered drinks. The boys ordered Stella and I suggested they order a local beer, so they asked the server, Daniel, his opinion and ordered something local and both loved it. I ordered a bottle of Prosecco and they brought me a 200mL bottle...no, no, that won't do, I wanted the large bottle. I think Daniel said "The lady likes a challenge" (Mark corrected me, he said "The lady knows how to live")..they brought 3 glasses to the table, maybe for the illusion I wasn't going to finish this on my own - lol. Mark ended up having 2 glasses, which was great. I had beef carpaccio as an appetizer which was amazing, and then Mark and I shared a pizza. Mark had a seafood salad and Jay had a feta salad and a pizza to himself - it was all delicious and this is the view from our table. I guess a lot of Game of Thrones is filmed here, I can see why it has a very medieval feel to it. There was a guitarist and cellist playing at the restaurant and they played the Game of Thrones theme song, it was amazing - we forgot to tip them on our way out, but we had planned to.
At the end of the meal Jay was literally asleep at the table (but woke up briefly for dessert). We decided to walk back to the condo, now mostly up hill, in order to walk off some dinner since we were planning on going to bed right away when we got back. We stopped quickly at a little market and picked up a bottle of wine to enjoy on the balcony tomorrow (foresight) and some yogurt and granola for the morning for breakfast. As we're walking back there are tonnes of people walking down to where we were coming from, young people, I decided the night clubs must be down that way, the opposite way from where we are walking - lol.
Back to the condo - we found it, which was a miracle - we decided we can't take the car out of the parking garage because we'll never find our way here again. We are here for two nights, so we shouldn't need the car anyway.
Off to bed, I sat on the balcony and read for a few minutes, Jay went straight to bed, so I moved in there fairly quickly to read in bed. Beds are comfy, but there is an angled ceiling so I have to make sure that I don't bang my head on the ceiling when I get up to pee in the night! Also there is a foot print on the ceiling...maybe they should touch up the paint. lol.
