Mud baths

Day 3

I got up at 6am this morning when I heard someone up and joined Sarah and Anthony upstairs. Ty was also up so we all chatted for about an hour before anyone was up.

Once everyone was up, and I had finished the blog for yesterday, I moved out onto the upper deck and read my book with Sarah A.

We discussed the plan for today, which we decided on the sulphur spring and mud baths about 20 mins from where we are (7 mins is just getting to the bottom of the hill!).

While sitting on the deck though we saw a cruise ship float by so figured the mud baths were out for today because it would be tendering in Soufriere but then it took off and cruised back up the coast to Castries.

Sage looks to be enjoying herself.

Pancakes, eggs and bacon for breakfast this morning. We had to ask Margaret and Georgiana to make more pancakes after the first 16 were gobbled up instantly!

After breakfast we got ready, which takes a while because there are 16 of us, and went to the volcano.

When we arrived we got the scoop from a gentleman at the gate. The mud baths are rejuvenating, healing for arthritis, allergies and take 10 years off your life. The kids looked at us and said “that would make us not even born yet”.  We decided to get a combo ticket to visit the bath and also the volcano. First stop mud bath.

No nudity. Must have been a problem to be at the top of the list.

Jay, Sarah and Anthony didn’t partake in the bath so Jay got some photos from up above.

Jeff didn’t come in either but watched all our stuff. When I was done I went over to see if he wanted to go in and I could take over. I said “My skin does feel soft...because the sulphur burns off the top layer of skin”.

We went up to the volcano next, driving up to the “top”, which was not very far up, to the “museum”, which was not very interesting and was more like an 8th Grade science fair.

After the disappointment of the museum we drove down the volcano and skipped the tour of the sulphur craters, I had been told before we came to not bother with the volcano and didn’t listen. Lol.

And you can’t describe how bad the whole place smelled.

From here we went to Anse Chastenet beach just down the road from the house.

It was a really cool beach but if you don’t rent chairs you can only sit below the high water line where there is no shade. The entry to the water is round rocks, hard on the feet, and then all of the sudden it drops off and you can’t touch the bottom. I think if we go back there then we will rent a couple of chairs for a home base. Sarah and I left after about 30 mins, I did cool down in the water but Sarah didn’t, we went back to town and did a big grocery shop and came back just in time for pizza for lunch.

Back to the house and assume the position.

At one point Anthony asked if I wanted a top up and I said “no, I’m ok. One eyed pirate Steve has already arrived, its time for water”.

We saw another cruise ship with sails while in the pool.

Margaret and Georgiana had prepared mahi mahi, banana bread stuffing, a coleslaw and a stewed chicken and Sarah C warmed up the leftover rice from a few days ago. (This is what I’m told, I don’t remember dinner).

I also wrote the following note:

Julia ; it’s like all of a sudden I couldn’t see. I was f$cked up man.

We finally pieced it together that this was said after dinner while we were playing crib. We had both switched to water at this point. The sun and the tequila got to us - oh, did I mention I found limes today at the grocery store?!  Queue happy dance!  When I got back Trev squeezed the limes (I bought them all) and only got a cup of juice but it was how much we needed. I took a sip and said “tastes like vacation”. Juls took a sip and said “oh, I’ve missed you”.

I stayed up after dinner only long enough to find out the score of the girls hockey game. Game 2 of the final round against Barrie. We lost 3-1 which put us out of the Final tournament. The girls had a great season and made the Provincials tournament in April, they have done amazing.

I set my alarm for 8am today because Jay and I have booked a tour to a local island by speed boat and it leaves around 10am.  I wake up ever...
