Walk between the Piton, Tet Paul Nature Trail

Day 4

Trev and Jay got up early this morning and went for a hike up the Petit Piton. One of them must have trapped a cockroach in a glass in the kitchen this morning.

Ellie went over to Anthony and told him that she had named him, Mr Cock. When he suggested she find a new name she asked why so he said maybe she should go ask her Dad.

Jay and Trev texted that they made it to the top of the Piton in 1 hr 7 mins with 4 stops for photos. Their guide, Anton, said that the fastest local time is 44 mins.

Meanwhile, Anthony played Scrabble with Avery, Ty and Paige and then the kids moved to playing Kids Trivia and as Anthony answered another question I said “Wow, you’re killer at Kids Trivia Anthony”.

They got back just after we were finishing breakfast. Enough time for something to eat and to turn around to go to the Tet Paul Nature Trail.

At breakfast Ellie came to Anthony at the table and said “I changed the cockroaches name.”  “Oh yeah? I think that was a good idea, what did you change it to?”  “Salty Cock”.  OMG, I thought he was going to snarf his coffee and he said “it’s a good thing I didn’t have pancake in my mouth or I could be dead right now”. Everyone was laughing, Avery’s face was red, the little girls were laughing and I whispered to Paige “Do you know what it means?” She didn’t, so I told her and her eyes bugged out and she laughed harder. I thought Sophie had heard me whisper but she hadn’t so then I told her and she bugged out and finally Avery told Myah and her eyes bugged out and she laughed harder. It was a funny series of laughs. Sarah told Ellie and she was concerned she was the only one who didn’t know - to her credit she did not get upset that we were all laughing - but Sarah explained that all the little girls just found out so that was ok.

As we were getting ready to go Avery and Paige said when they get back they want to read the blog. Avery said “Ellie made the blog”. Myah said “I’ve made the blog!”  Avery said “I’ve never made the blog...(and I made a thinking face and said mmmm)..I made the blog?!?”  Nope. You haven’t. “Ugh”. But now you have.

We also secured a boat trip on Tuesday up the coast to Rodney Bay. We chartered a boat for the day from 9-4:30. So we will go to Reduit Bay to an outdoor splash park on the beach, then shopping in Rodney Bay and some other stops on the way back down to Soufriere.

Once we were organized we headed out to Tet Paul. We got there and paid, went to the washroom before we did the walk. Sophie asked me to come with her so we went in and it was pretty good (cleaner than I was expecting) but had no toilet seat so I went, one hand on the wall behind me. When Sophie was going she suddenly said “oh no!”  I looked at her, laughed and said “did you sit?”  Yeah. “Oh well”. Haha.

Our guide, which was included in the price, was Fabius.

One of the first things we saw was a pineapple plant. Did you have any idea that pineapple grow this way??  It takes 9 months on the plant and then 3 months off the plant to mature and ripen, which explains why pineapple is so expensive!

I wanted Paige in the photo for scale and she wanted to be in but she was worried the rest of the group was moving on without us.

Fabius said the fruit below is called Noni. It has a not good smell and not good flavour. It smells like stinky cheese and tastes very bitter. He said it’s used as a colon cleanser and if you have 3-4 tablespoons don’t plan to go to work for a few days. Lol.

Sophie saw this pineapple and walked forward to touch it saying “oh, look at this pineapple it’s so (cute) OWIE!  It’s spiky!”

Avery had gotten dust in her eye really early in the walk and it was really irritating her. She could only see  180 degrees of the 360 degree view (har har).

We left here to go to Ruby’s for lunch in Soufriere but it was closed. So we went to Orlando’s, which is closer to the house and had been recommended by Sarah and Jeff’s taxi driver from the airport the first day. We parked and went in and they said it would be 15-20 mins to set us up so Sarah, Ellie, Sophie and I walked to the grocery store to grab a few things while the others waited for a table. Trev texted while we were there saying it was a set menu and nothing kid friendly but then texted back and said he would make something just for us (the owner and chef didn’t want to see 16 people walk out the door - good move). The food was so good. We started with soup and had a choice between gespacho and pumpkin.

Then we had a mahi mahi with fries or chicken with fries and delicious coleslaw (I was too hungry to take a picture!) and then rum carmelized bananas with ice cream for dessert. We figured lunch was $30USD pp but it was $30EC which is about $14USD!!

The service worked on Island time at the restaurant so by the time we were done the kids were antsy so I took them all back up to the house in our car. Girls in the back because the boys got to ride in the back the other day.

On the way up the hill we would “beep beeep” the horn going around each blind corner (there are a few) and at one point we saw a car full of our staff and the kids all yelled out “Paul!”  He was waving the keys to the house out the window of the car. I guess they locked up and noticed that we hadn’t taken our keys with us. (I wonder how we were supposed to get in if we hadn’t happens to pass them on the goat trail?).

When we came in they had done a full clean and tidy (which they usually do but we mess it up along the way like 16 toddlers on vacation).

Avery went in the kitchen and looked to see what we had for dinner on the stove. I said “what have we got”. She said “rice and chicken and vegetables” and the way she said it I said “again”. “Again”. Lol. It’s always good, if not exciting.

The kids went straight to the pool when we got back and we weren’t far behind.

I had to take my typical photo of Trev sleeping. His beer has been tipping further and further forward.

Anthony said “can anyone see a towel anywhere here?”  We have 100 towels and they’re all wet!  Good thing the sun is hot and there is a breeze.

At one point Avery and Jackson were wrestling in the pool and she had him in a headlock. I said “Ava, wrap a leg around him!”  Jackson got schooled, as she threw him around Ace Ventura style.

Anthony was holding a ball up and out of reach of Maddy in the pool and she reached up and pulled both his armpit hairs until he dropped it. Totally effective!

Ty went a little wild today on the virgin Pina coladas. He cried “I only had 2!”  Ty Manalac! Lol, oh yeah I forgot about that other one. “You know I’m teasing you, right?”

He has been excited about making chocolate covered almonds and Juls said she would make them with him so they did that this afternoon too. Juls says they look like rabbit turds. They’re in the freezer for later.

They also discovered the fish in the little pond in the courtyard aren’t super smart or fast. Lol.

When we start to get hungry someone shouts it’s time for dinner and we all sit and eat together.

Jay said “you just became that person who takes pictures of your food”. Where has he been the last 8 years?  I’m always taking pictures of food for the blog.

His unimpressed face.

I tried to take a panoramic photo for quite a while before Trev said I had to turn my phone the other way. Even then I went way too fast so it looks like it’s in a fishbowl.

Girls night to tidy up. I came out to the boys and said “guess what we found in the kitchen”. A cockroach?  “No, a dishwasher!”  We opened it and I sang “ahhhhh” like the angels at heavens gate. After it was fully loaded though (as loaded as Juls and I) we couldn’t figure out how to turn it on, there was no power. So we left the dishes and are hoping Margaret and Georgiana know how to make it work in the morning.

The bat was back and flying around. I tried to get a photo of it but couldn’t. Juls was screaming with shorts on her head as she crawled up the stairs as I stood in the middle of the room trying to take a picture. Lol.

7pm. Bedtime!
