We took the bus from Florence to Siena this morning at 11am, it was about an hour trip since we got the Siena Rapida which is non-stop. Many recommendations online to take the bus as it drops you off in the middle of town, as opposed to the train station which is at the edge of the city.
Our hotel is about a 4 minute walk from the bus station, which in most cities would be "not good" - however, in Siena about 30 seconds walk from the bus station is beautiful and again we're staying in a perfect location.
Also, with each city our bedrooms and bathrooms seem to be getting bigger!
We found the hotel again with the help of the iPad maps and checked into the Albergo Bernini with no problem.
After checking in and checking out the rooftop terrace (two of the photos are of the rooftop terrace from below <2nd and 14th> and another is a photo from the terrace <13th> {this is a real pain that I can't put them in the order I want or label them!}) we went out to lunch.
There is a photo of a street scene, downhill with a few tables to the right- <#11> this is the street we walked down to go to our restaurant. When you get to the bottom it goes back up, pretty much exactly as far. There is another photo OF the table and chairs that you could see on the right to show exactly what a severe degree these streets run on! <#5> But, when we got to the top at the other side we realized that the little street we wanted was actually just beyond that table and chairs and had to go back down and all the way back up!! It was worth it though. Mom had pasta with tomatoes, garlic and hot peppers and I had a little pasta pouch with cheese and pear inside drizzled with a bit of butter and some dry oregano. One of the people we met here said "anything added to Tuscan food is meant to enhance the flavour" - my pasta was perfect with just that bit of butter and oregano, and we've found the food so simple but flavourful here.
After lunch I switched shoes. I was wearing my Merrell sandals and switched to my Merrell 'hikers', if the trip for lunch was any indication I should have bought granny hikers at Walking On A Cloud!
After lunch we went to see where we were going to be meeting Donatella for our tour tomorrow out of the City, it's only about 3 minutes from the hotel which is perfect. Then we went back to the bus station to see if we could catch a bus to Figline Valdarno the day after tomorrow instead of taking the train from Siena (which goes back to Florence for a connection), but we can't.
Then we wandered some more, tried to decide whether we wanted to sit down for a coffee or a gelato and split the difference with Caffe Gelato (coffee flavoured Gelato). Gelato here is super creamy and delicious. It looks gross, like it's melted...but that's the way it's supposed to be! Not hard like a rock like it is at home.
Then we wandered around the back streets and took all the other great photos and found the restaurant that the girl at the front desk recommended for dinner and made a reservation.
Then we wandered for another hour and took more photos, which was when Mom was "done". We bought a bottle of wine and are now sitting in the room relaxing for a few minutes and letting it cool down outside until we go up to have a glass of wine on the terrace before our 7:30 reservation. (which to get to, by the way we have to walk back down and back up that street to get to).
