Walking...more walking...

Busy, busy, busy.

After a slow start to the morning - we didn't get up until 8:30 and didn't leave until after having a typical Italian breakfast of cappuccino and bread (toast or croissants) - we left the B&B and went to buy tickets to the Accedemia Gallery, where the statue of David is housed. After securing tickets for 1:30 we had 2.5 hours to kill so we went up to Piazza San Marco (not the one Mom thought), went up to a fort that was a fort and not exciting (fort sounds more exciting in italian when you don't know it means fort) but it was near the train station, so went and bought our Bus ticket for tomorrow's trip to Siena since several people said online that it was hard to find (after asking for directions we found it).

We went from there to the Mercado Centrale and bought a couple little things and had lunch at a stall in the market called Pork's that Lynn had recommended. I had lasagna with a béchamel sauce and Mom had ravioli with meat sauce, both were very good and cheap.

We left the market and walked over to Accademia, saw David, checked it off the list.

After leaving Accademia we had 3 hours before our reservation for the Uffizi gallery (you have to buy tickets for museums here for certain 15 minute intervals).

So, we decided to take a double decker bus tour around the city and into the "countryside". It was a hop on, hop off idea but we just hopped on and rode it for an hour and a half until it got us close to where we needed to get to the museum. It was beautiful (the countryside, not the bus) but I don't have pictures because it hard to take a good picture from a moving bus.

The Uffizi was...a museum. That's what I was going to say but to be diplomatic I said to Mom "the Uffizi was...?" "a museum". Right. The Italians like paintings of Jesus.

We did a lot of walking today and went up a lot of stairs.

After Uffizi we passed the Ponte Vecchia again and went to look at some earrings that Mom had her eye on the other day. Once she finally chose a pair that she loved I surprised her by buying them for her as a Thank You for our trip.

From there we walked to dinner at El Contadino...10 minutes walk my a&@. But it was worth it. For 13.50€ each we got 2 courses, a side dish and a glass of wine each. Let me ask you something, have you ever had gnocchi that didn't taste like glue and sit in your stomach digesting for 13 days and 5 hours? Oh my goodness...this gnocchi with cream cheese and spinach melted in your mouth...it was light, fluffy, delicious and has ruined me forever for gnocchi. We didn't even finish out side dishes..and the gnocchi wasn't even mine it was Mom's. I had spicy macaroni which was fantastic.
For the main course I had a traditional Tuscan dish which was thinly sliced roast beef wrapped around some kind of cheese that had a piece of proscutto wrapped around it first with a light cheesy buttery sauce on it and a side of roasted tomatoes. Mom had rabbit (tastes like chicken) which she loved, i tried it, it was excellent and a side of French fries.

Then a walk back to the B&B and here we are again. 9pm our time, 3pm your time. Enjoy your dinner and I'll enjoy my sleep.

Wine first, sleep soon.
