ATV Tour

Woke up this morning at 5:33am and got up and dressed and came downstairs.  The girls were having a picnic in the living room eating their cereal and Maria had coffee made...love Maria.  I actually decided to forego the coffee and get right to a workout.  Jim and Maria are golfing today at 8am and we have the ATV set up for 8am so we weren't planning on doing a workout today, but I don't want to miss it and won't get the exercise that they will on the golf course, so I grab a few supplies (the weights, some water) and head up to my room to do a 40 minute circuit.  We're back to arms and abs day, so I don't need a lot of room, which is great, and as I'm working out I decide to add to the middle another 4 mins of abs and another 4 mins of arms so I actually get a 48 min workout in!

The view out my window during my workout.

When I'm done its 7am, time for a quick dip in the pool to cool off and some breakfast and to get the girls organized, dressed and lathered in sunscreen before we need to head off to our ATV adventure today.  I forgot to take a solo sweaty selfie so took one in the pool instead.

We get to Tico (which is the slang name for a Costa Rican) Adventure ATV and get a quick lesson on the fully automatic machines before we head off.  Sophie is riding with me and Paige is riding with my Mom, its just the 4 of us this morning as Dad decided to stay at the house and that maybe he would do the ATV when Jay is here next week because we plan to do it again.  The girls were riding up in front of us, which made reaching around them a little difficult - we didn't have trouble last year, they must have grown!  Anyway, at our first stop Mom had Paige switch to sitting behind her and Paige said she liked that better, that it was more comfortable anyway and she could still see everything - so Sophie switched to the back as well the next time we stopped.  Sophie was the official photographer, I gave her the camera, but I didn't bring the USB cord needed to transfer the pictures to the computer so I can't put any in the blog for now.  Most of them were crap anyway, lol.  Maria had a cord so here are some!

We got to see two groups of howler monkeys on the ride today, they did not like the revving of the engines and it would get the Alpha howling at us.  At one point there were 3 pretty much right above us in the trees and Mom said "keep your mouth closed!" haha.  Mine was closed, but the girls shut theirs pretty quickly after they asked "why?".  We did the Beach Tour this morning, which is the same one we did last year, we went to Playa Conchal and then another beach and then Playa Minas which is where the turtles come to lay their eggs, though we didn't see any.  It was pretty there.

The plan is that we will do the Mountain Tour next week when Jay gets here for something different.

After the ATV tour we made a quick stop at the Super Massai and pick up coconut milk, coconut cream and pineapple juice because Sophie has been asking me to make virgin pina coladas and then got Mom to grab some dark rum so we can have the adult version as well.

On our way home from the store I said to Mom that I don't think I'm going to have a drink at lunch when we're out because its just a waste (of calories) and she said "Yeah, you don't need a drink at lunch" and I knew she meant the general "you" but then she said "I don't mean YOU I just mean in general" But then, when we got home and I made the girls a pitcher of pina coladas I added some rum to it for her and we enjoyed a drink as she prepped a mid-morning snack - at 11:30am!  This day might turn out to be a shit show...drinking at 11:30am.

After our nacho snack, which was delicious, we went for a dip in the pool and Mom said something about only having one drink - I don't know if she said something off or if she couldn't get in the floatie properly or why she said that, but I commented 'Yeah, but it was a doozie'.."it wasn't a doozie"  'Really? It was beige (always the test of a good pina colada) - but maybe it just seemed like there was more rum in it because there's an inhibitor on the bottle and so I stood for a long time pouring!'

I was on the girls yesterday about sunscreen because we were in the pool all day.  I shouted out to Sophie, in the pool "Did you use the stick to put sunblock on?"  and she nodded yes "I said because your cheeks are a little red...and I'm not talking about your face"  That got me a rare grin (and I think she used the joke on Jim at least twice later in the pool).  She was again swimming in just her underwear all afternoon as well.

I went in shortly after and made another pitcher of pina coladas and said to Mom "You might not think that your drink is strong, but half your bottle of rum is gone now".  This is how Mom has always drunk her pina coladas...straw in mouth until its done.

Spotify 70's today by the pool - so good.

Maria and I were chatting in the pool, even with the maintenance issues the house has (the sinks are kinda gross, especially the kitchen sink, the washer and dryer are all corroded but work and the showers either don't have any pressure (Maria's) or don't have hot water (mine) and the pillows are not comfortable, we would still consider renting it again next year because the outdoor space is so amazing and that's literally where we spend our time when we're up from 6am to 8pm.  I said to her we would have to find someone to rent the 4th bedroom though - I'm not sure Mom likes coming at this time of year before Christmas.  She said she would let us know at the end of the two weeks.  But this house you can also rent as a 3 bedroom which we could make work if no one else wanted to come.  We chatted about the different places we've rented before and Maria said "The important stuff never changes though.."  And I said "The People" while she pointed at a picture of a tequila sour on her iPad and said "Oh, yeah the people!" haha!  I asked Jim if he would consider coming down with us again and he said that he would if he was welcome again - I said I'm actually ok either way, joking with him.  "Maria has to pay for a room regardless of if there are two of you in it, so I'm neutral".  Mom commented that then we could buy less tequila, because Jim enjoys the sours as well.  And he commented that its nice to have more than one person to drink with though and I said 'but Maria never says No to a sour, so again.." and Jim said "But she drinks slower.." - "Which is actually perfect, that's a win win". lol.

I can't believe its Tuesday already and we stayed in Flamingo Beach because we love Flamingo Beach and we haven't even been yet - this day turned into a pool day (maybe because of the drinks at 11:30am).  At 3:15pm Mom said it was 3:15pm and we all said "NO, it must be wrong, it can't be 3:15pm its got to be later than that!" and that's how the rest of the afternoon and evening went.  We had to wait for Angelina's Restaurant to open at 5pm before we walked down for dinner and when we got home it was 6:27pm lol.  At some point in the afternoon the girls were table dancing, which I had forgotten about. I remembered lots of stuff today when I started transferring photos to my iPad for the blog this morning.

Jim was a little unsteady on the way to the restaurant, he was locking the front door and I asked if he has the set of keys with the front gate key on it, he said I have the metal gate - the front gate? I have the metal gate. Front Gate. Oh, ok, that's here too.

We had time for some pictures while we waited for him to lock the door.

And then for a few more while he unlocked the Front Gate.

Took this photo of the house across the street. Maria took one too, lol. Little crooked.

We walked down the hill to the restaurant and sat down and Jim sat by accident at the table beside us and then looked over at us like 'why are you sitting over there? This isn't our table?"

We all ordered our drinks and when Jim's arrived he said "Did I order this?" Yes, we all agreed he used the words "I'll have an Imperial Light".  We shared tuna tartar which was amazing and sausage and peppers as appetizers and then ordered pizzas. Jim and Maria and I ordered a pizza to share with peppers, caramelized onions and sausage. When it arrived at the table Jim said "Did they bring this to the wrong table? Did we order this?"  Lol.

We then discussed ordering pizza and taking it home on Thurs night, Jim's last night here, it's Moms night to cook so she's thrilled with that idea. I said that would be much better than having two kids laying down on the banquette and Jim not knowing what the hell is going on!  The kids are tired from the sun all day and I think the sours snuck up on Jim today!

6:27..by the time we walk up the hill it's just before 7 and we all go for a dip in the pool. It's beautiful and warm, the night is clear and we've had an amazing day.

I set my alarm for 8am today because Jay and I have booked a tour to a local island by speed boat and it leaves around 10am.  I wake up ever...
