Playa Flamingo!

I woke up this morning just before 4am and couldn't get back to sleep.  So after going to the washroom and laying in bed for another 30 minutes trying to get to sleep I turned on my iPad and read my book for 20 minutes and then tried to get to sleep again - no luck.  So I went down to start my day with a coffee and write out the blog for yesterday before we get ready for a workout this morning.

This is what 6am looks like in Costa Rica from the pool deck.

Yesterday I had written the rental company that we used last year to get Antonio, our groundskeepers, phone number so that we could call him and maybe go have a visit.  They gave it to me and I texted him (I wrote it in English before I realized I should probably write it in Spanish so I used a translation app to do it because I wasn't sure he would understand it otherwise!).  He phoned this morning and we had a quick conversation and we'll drive over there in the next few days and see him to say Hello.  He remembered Maria had dropped her phone in the pool and asked about Jay and the kids.  I got off the phone and Mom asked who I was talking to, I said "Antonio, he must have remembered we got up early" - Why, what time is it? "Its 6:15am". - Who calls someone at 6:15am?!  That's hilarious. Oh My God.

I got the blog mostly finished and Maria was working on her expenses before we got out to start our workout around 7am.  This is the view this morning while doing my weighted hip press.

We did 48 minutes this morning, just adding 2 four minute exercises to our previous legs and cardio workout - which the first day we both found hard, but today was much better.  At one point I said my mantra to Maria "I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful" haha - I was thinking it in my head in the same voice from What About Bob.  I don't know why, its not really my mantra.

Sweaty selfie sans Jim this morning.  I asked him if he was going to workout with us and he said he wasn't sure yet...I said if you are going to I need to rework the first workout because it was designed for 2 people (using the weights every other exercise) so I would have to write out a new one with the weights every 3rd exercise, if you aren't going to then we can just use the workout we have.  That was an easy out I guess because he decided to skip the workout today and re join us tomorrow.  He said later his legs are sore from the other day, but that's when you have to keep working out otherwise tomorrow you can't sit!

After a dip in the pool to cool off we got ready to go to the beach, I said "Its 9:15..do we want to plan for the beach at 10?"  That's the plan.  A little before 10 I got up to start packing up our bag with 3 towels, snacks, water, sunscreen, my iPad, a change of clothes for the girls, my phone, my wallet, goggles - I bring a big beach bag!  We all get organized and get the boogie boards in the back of the car and its probably close to 10:40 by the time we're down at the beach and parked in the shade along the road and settled in the shade under a tree.  The waves, as always, were fun for the girls to play and ride in.

I kept an eye on Dad on the shore because I know he's not a beach guy, so when the girls went out to get a snack and he was roaming around trying to find a comfortable place to sit I said to Maria that it might be time to head for lunch.  So we got out, got dry and got organized and walked down the beach to Coco Loco's on the beach.  Good timing because Dad was done with the beach and had been bitten by a few ants. This wasn't the best experience for me, we sat on the beach but there was a combination of sun and shade, so in order to stay in the shade Paige, Sophie and I were all sitting on one side of the table, Mom at the end and Maria on the other side and Jim and Dad had to sit at another table next to us to stay in the shade as well.  Also, my chair was listing to the side and I was straddling the end of the table so had to weave my leg up and over the chair and under the table around the other side of the leg to sit and get up.  And it was hot.  But, the food is really good and its convenient.  I had a chicken, brie and apple panini with potato wedges, and Mom and Maria shared a sandwich and then taquitos, which are usually thin and small but they were HUGE, like the size of a Twinkie.  Jim and Paige had chicken fingers, Dad had a shredded beef sandwich (like a pulled pork sandwich only beef) and Sophie had mac n cheese (go figure).

Paige and I walked back to the car on the beach while everyone else walked back in the shade on the road.  We saw all these veins in the sand, and turns out they're all little crabs that have come ashore in the tide.

It was HOT today at lunch and so we all got in the pool as soon as we got home.  The girls now swarm to Jim when in the pool because he'll play with them in there and he had Sophie wrapped around his right arm and said "this is like exercise, not like the wimpy workout you guys did this morning" I said "Yeah right, now squat and curl, squat and curl" and so he squatted, with Sophie still wrapped around his arm, and she hadn't been paying attention so she went under and came up sputtering I said "Well that had the desired affect" as she swam off to the side of the pool on her own.

Maria had been trying a few days ago to lay on her floatie but was having trouble getting onto it face down.  So I explained to her how I had done it and she was trying to mount it in the proper form but kept falling off and into the water.  After the third attempt I said "this is starting to get embarassing" lol, she gave it a final try and made it on!  Later I hopped on and the girls were trying to tip me off, which lasted about 3-4 minutes. I shouted to Maria, I don't know how you couldn't stay on this on your own, when I've got these two on with me!  They finally dunked me but there's now a leak in the floatie is so we owe Maria a new one.

I made a pitcher of pina coladas when we got out of the pool and they were so good that Maria drank hers in about a minute flat (they were small), when Mom said she didn't want any Maria refilled our cups and then put hers down on the table in front of her (which was further away because we had pushed the couch back into the shade) and said "maybe if I keep it further away I won't drink it as fast"...which kinda worked.  But now we're out of pineapple juice and only have a little bit of coconut milk left so they have to go on the list for next grocery trip.

Today is a total pool day, its so hot.  I just got out of the pool, wrapped a towel around me and sat down.  Its 3:35pm and its 32 degrees and feels like 35 degrees.  I didn't even get a chance to get dry before I hopped back in the pool again!  Sophie was trying to get Paige in the pool earlier and couldn't, so I said to Paige "You want to play Simon says?  Come to the edge and I'll be Simon as Sophie snuck up behind her and pushed her into the water!"  Good times.  She was more pissed that I didn't intend to play Simon says for real.

Its now 4:09pm and Dad just woke up from his second nap.  Its starting to get windy out, so I think it will be ok to get out of the pool now!  Maria is making stuffed peppers for dinner tonight so she's in the house.  I turned to Paige and said "Paige, can you get me my other sunglasses? These are hurting my head (they're my cheap ones I don't mind if I lose in the ocean but the arms are too tight) and you can have an Oreo"  She looked at me and said "I love it when you're being lazy" and she got up and said "Where are they?"  "I actually think they're in the bag right beside me! lol"  Jim says that's a new low, but Mom says No, Maria paid Paige $1 this morning to go and find her hair clip which was in the bathroom on the counter (where Maria had looked twice already).  Paige said to Maria as she handed it over "Its ok if you don't have a dollar, you can always give me a twenty"!

We were chatting again about last night and what a disaster Jim was and I said that I forgot to add into the blog that Jim had said that sours were the best invention, right up there with electricity.  And the wheel.  He said "You can edit the blog?"  I said "Oh yeah, I can edit it, I can edit you right out of our vacation if I want Jim!"  He's safe for now.

Dinner was delicious, as always, we need to buy some hot sauce - the hot peppers were the absolute best with the Bajan sauce from Barbados.  Oh, Maggie and Drew are there right now, so I just texted Maggie to see if she can grab me a bottle - yum!
