You really go to bed at 8:30?!?

We got up this morning at 6am, poured coffee only to find the milk we had bought yesterday had gone off.  So we opened the almond milk that we had in the fridge and it was chunky.  So no coffee this morning for me.

Maria and Trevor left for zip lining at 8am and should be back around 11am, so we had to figure out some logistics on them getting into the house and then getting out of the gated area to meet us at Flamingo.   Once I had figured that out and texted Maria we were good to head out.

Maggie got up at a little after 8am and I heard her inside getting breakfast when all of the sudden she said "Ugh, this is NOT orange juice!"  Nope, both of those pitchers are tequila sours, we hadn't given her the lowdown on the fridge yet!  There is a small jug of orange juice at the back, but we don't normally touch that except once a day to make our pitcher of sours.

Antonio came this morning and said he wants to come at around 2-3pm today to make us a snack on the bbq and wanted me to buy tomatoes, onion, cilantro, peppers, limes and tortillas so that he could make pico de gallo.  We made a little list for the grocery store and told him we would definitely be back for 2pm...which usually isn't a problem we are usually back by 1pm.

We headed down to the beach around 10, this is the first morning the girls have been in the pool before we go to the beach - Alice and the girls went for a swim and then played some Go Fish (or vice versa, I can't remember) and not once whined "when are we going to the beach"...so nice.  They did fight in the pool though over the floaty (my girls), they haven't fought once since being here so they are getting tired of each other..a perfect time to add Alice to the mix.

We had fun in the waves on Flamingo, Alice loved the boogie board as she had never done it before and Maggie and I both got tossed in a couple of big waves.  I'll try bro add some of Maggie's photos from the beach later.  I went up to the bags to check to see if Trevor and Maria were coming to meet us and got this text!

Clearly, they were not coming to the beach!  So we packed up our stuff and went to The Shack for lunch.  I had an amazing pina colada, Jay had a smoothie, Maggie had a beer and the girls all had milkshakes.  On the board they had a drink called Beer Punch, with a disclaimer underneath that said Proceed with Caution...probably worth a try.  Jay asked what was in it when they brought it to the table - equal parts beer, lemonade and VODKA!  Equal Parts!  Its a good thing I don't like beer - I had half of my glass and gave the rest to Maggie..proceed with caution indeed, someone still had to drive home!

During lunch I'm getting multiple texts from Trevor about Antonio and the bbq, so finally I wrote back in Spanish so that Trevor could try to tell Antonio that I would be there on time and that I would get everything on my list!

Also the text from Trevor about Maria's phone landing in the pool - that's karma for cracking the sours a) before 11am and b) when we are at the beach!  It would be funny except for how freaked out Maria is about it, she's trying to be chill but she's in complete panic mode.

The Shack is right across from the Merkado, so we were able to pick up all the ingredients we needed, except cilantro, and also picked up ingredients for Beer Punch, which Jay made when we got back to the house.  On the way back we passed the Super Wendy, another small grocery store on the road, so I decided to stop in quick and see if they had fresh cilantro, which they did - so perfect, we had everything on our list!

Antonio was very happy to see me when I came in with the groceries and quickly set up to chop the tomatoes, onions, peppers and cilantro for his pico de gallo - there are no words to describe how fresh and delicious it was!  The pork was amazing, it had a sticky, sweet and smokey bbq sauce on it and Antonio bbqed the tortillas and laid it all out for us.

The girls asked me to make them a virgin sour, so I went in and poured orange juice, simple syrup and squeezed a half of a lime into it and gave them some ice and brought it out to the pool deck for them.  About 10 minutes later Jay came out of the house with the Beer Punch to top up Maggie's drink and I said "What is that in there?!  That's the simple syrup jug!"  I had made the kids drinks with about 50% beer punch - oh my God.  Thankfully they hadn't had more than a few sips of it, and Maggie and Jay poured it back into their pitcher and just topped it up with more beer and vodka to offset the orange juice I had added. Crisis averted on both fronts.

Jay and Trevor played in the pool with the girls all afternoon with just enough breaks to re-apply sunblock and top up drinks.

Look at that hair...this is the do I've been sporting down here with the humidity.

A little while later Maggie looked at Alice in the pool, who was right beside me, and said "Did you just throw up?"  WHAT?!? "Alice, get out of the pool.." Maggie is like a Mom Ninja, I have no idea how she realized Alice had thrown up a little in her mouth..anyway, Alice JUST made it out of the pool before throwing up everything she had eaten that day as well as maybe yesterday and the day before...she's just little but that was a whole lot of barf.  It could have been the sun, or it could have been the beer punch she drank - but afterwards she felt way better.  Maggie grabbed the hose and hosed off the deck...and then Trevor came out and cleaned the deck like a non-parent would, with some soap and a lot more hosing until ALL the chunks were in the garden and it smelled better.

I sat on the deck with Maggie and asked her if she was ok with how our day usually played out - up early, play all day and bed early and she said yes...later we learned not so much.  HAHA.  At about 5:30pm Maggie started to try to convince someone to go down to town with her to go to a bar for some music and dancing.  How are you going to get there Maggie?  And back?  We're at the top of a frickin' mountain, walk? take a taxi?  There is no address to call a taxi, and who knows if Potrero even HAS a taxi.  She brought a headlamp and two flashlights and was determined someone would go with her to find a party.  I said "Its ok Mags, we'll have a dance party here!  From 6:45 to 7:00pm"  I finally later whispered to Trevor when Maggie went inside "I don't think Maggie understands" and he says "We'll see if she understands later, at 7:20 when its closing time".  She's read the blog, she has no one to blame but herself - haha!

Maria is still worried about her phone, she popped the SIM card out and asked if I would try hers in my phone.  Sure, oh, now?  Yeah, as in now would be great.  So this is what stressed Maria looks like.

Maria showed me some great photos of their zip line adventure.

The girls called down from the balcony asking if because they're on vacation can they put on some makeup?  And then came down to show us a fashion show.

Paige went for the more natural look.

We are still full from Antonio's snack earlier, but its dinner time (6:00pm) and so I chop up more tomatoes and onions and a jalepeno to add to Antonio's pico de gallo juice which we saved from earlier and we warm up our leftovers - favourite rice, paella and stuffed pepper stuffing and put it all out on plates.  We have rice with ham, rice with bacon and rice with beef - with a side of nacho chips and pico de gallo - dinner of champions.  The plan had been to have salad and chicken...that can wait until tomorrow.

After dinner we came back out on the deck for a bit, Maggie still trying to get somehow to what she imagines is a great party she's missing in town, and I finished my drink and told the girls its time for bed (they are exhausted from the sun and the waves).  Jason came up about 10 minutes later and we both read for a while. It's just after 7:30pm.

I got up this morning and Trevor and Maria were cleaning the kitchen.  I stayed in bed a while this morning reading, so it's 6:45, I've been up for an hour.  I have a cough now to go with my post nasal drip - its awesome.  I came down and said "So, did Maggie ever make it to town?"  No, she finally realized we weren't going out. She kept saying "What time is it?" 8:20 and when Trev said he was going to bed and Maria said she would just finish this last collage and she would be following she asked "What time is it?"  8:30.  "You guys really go to bed at 8:30?!"  No.  Usually we go to bed at 7:30, this is late.

BUT, in our defense.  We are all up at 5:45am and its now 8:20 and Maggie is still sleeping.  She too could go to bed at 7:20pm if she would get up a little earlier :)  We'll see how she enjoys vacationing with the Middletons...only time will tell.
