Second Circle of Hell

Day 3

We woke up this morning around 7am to a thump. I sat up at in bed and looked down the hall to see Paige standing by her bed, she'd fallen out of the top bunk!  She was half asleep trying to get out of bed, so not a full on fall. She came to snuggle with us for another hour. Jay started reading his book and I finished up the blog. When I was done uploading all the photos and ready to publish I said to Jay "What should I call yesterday's Blog?"  "First level of hell" (lmao), I busted out laughing "Only 7 more to go. " he said. Which actually aligns with our departure date.

"For now I'll call it Day 2". I guess that makes today's the Second circle of hell.

Jay went for an hour long bike ride today and while he was gone I walked the girls up to the front and they got 3 'go karts' again for another hour. We figure at $10 and hour it likely takes them less than a week to pay off the 'go karts' which will then last them another 3-5 years. They're rented out constantly and there are probably 15 of them. We told the girls they could only do it once more so they decided to do it today in case they didn't get a chance tomorrow.

We had lunch before heading into town to catch our glass bottom boat to Flowerpot Island. KD for the girls with veggies and I had some cheese and crackers. Jay had his remaining hard boiled eggs with Boursin on bread with hot sauce.

Before we left we were trying to decide if it was a 4km hike or walk around the island (runners or sandals) so I looked it up online and the rating said Easy. So we all wore our sandals because we figured that meant a gravel path as opposed to a single track hike.

Wrong.

Jay pointed out a Garter snake when he saw one on the path about 8 mins into our hike and Sophie lost her sh...uh, mind. Apparently she is afraid of snakes, who knew.  She put on her brave face and continued hiking, we just made Jay hike at the front and me at the back and she stayed back with me.

We got to half way through the loop and it opens up at the water to a museum and washroom (glorified outhouse). To say the girls went swimming would be a stretch, but they did get wet and were in the water for a while. When they got out Paige and Myah were building an inukshuk and Sophie was eating a snack when I called Jay over to me on the rocks to point out a snake swimming in the water. "Can you imagine if Sophie saw that?  They should call this Snake Island."  I would say Sophie liked snakes as much as she liked getting her blood drawn or going to the eye doctor (not much).

After about an hour stay by the water we finished the loop, the second half is all gravel path back to the launch and past the Flowerpots, most people don't do the whole loop, they just come up to the end of the gravel path (to the museum and bathroom) and turn back. We specifically did the loop backwards because of the throngs of people moving the other direction. We had no idea it's so busy up here (Tobermory) with tourists!

On our boat ride back, which Sophie was very concerned about it going fast, all 3 girls were up on their knees looking out the side of the boat and laughing at our hair whipping around (the way back was an open air boat). Another big boat passed by and we were crossing its wake, so I told them to hold on tight. It was a fairly big wake as it rolled towards us and the bow of the boat raised and dipped twice and Sophie lost her 'mind' again.  Again, she recovered very quickly and enjoyed the rest of the ride. Jay said to her, "you know what you are, you're like a little Chihuahua" I can't remember the exact context but she pouted and said "I want to be a Cane Corso" and we both laughed and said "You are NOT a Cane Corso, you are what a Cane Corso eats for breakfast!"

Once we disembarked and took the shuttle back to the car we went to Big Tubs Resort and had dinner on the patio of a little restaurant there that the cashier at Foodland has recommended. I ordered a cider and Jay a beer. Then I asked about a local beer and ordered that too. I drank half the beer, added half the cider, then drank the rest of the cider and enjoyed a Shandy (beer and cider) on the patio. Jay and I had ribs, they were delicious and the girls had pizza and fries and Myah had Caesar salad and fries (Jay made her add chicken on top for protein even though the girls didn't have any protein either! She didn't eat the chicken but we brought it home for a wrap for lunch today).

Back at the trailer park I dropped the girls and Jay off at the front because the big yellow duck was free (a paddle boat in the front pond). I came back to the motorhome, grabbed a Sangria and a lawn chair and sat outside to read my book. They all came back quickly and lined up for the bathroom. I think Jay dies a little inside each time he hears someone go in there thinking about having to empty the tank again.

The girls went out biking around for the next hour and then had a handstand completion for an hour and a half after that. Sophie is getting really good at handstands, which she should since she does about 400 a day. She spends a lot of time upside down.

The girls were wiped and went to bed tonight with no protest around 9:45pm. (It's now almost 9am as I finish writing yesterday's adventures down).  Jay read his book, at home he watches Netflix before bed and hasn't been sleeping well. I've been telling him for months to stop watching it before bed - here he reads for about 20 mins, falls asleep at 9:30pm and doesn't wake up until 8am. He's finished the 179 episodes of some stupid show he hated anyway so I'm hoping he doesn't get back in that habit at home again.

Tomorrow, on Erin's suggestion, I think we will go to the singing sands and no idea what else yet!

I set my alarm for 8am today because Jay and I have booked a tour to a local island by speed boat and it leaves around 10am.  I wake up ever...
