Now we're all here!

Woke up this morning with Sophie whispering in my ear "Mummy, what time is it?"  Who cares, we're sleeping!  It was 5:45am, and she woke us both up.  It was time to get up anyway, lol.

This morning Maria called off the workout, but I was in agreement - I told her we have one bi per week and that was it for this week so we have to workout every other day.  Otherwise the 1,000 calories in pina coladas and tequila sours we consume daily are going to show up on our behinds when we get home.

The girls are staying behind with Jim today while we're gone and we plan to be back just after lunch so that we are home when Jay and Trevor arrive.  They're on the same flight that we were so they'll land around noon and I arranged for a car to pick them up at the airport and drive them to the house.  They've been asking every 15 minutes or so when we're leaving - I think that they're hoping to negotiate with Jim for Oreos early since he asked me for my ground rules while we're gone and they included:

- they must be sunscreened 5 mins before going swimming
- if they want anything to eat before lunch it has to be fruit or vegetables
- they should work on their autobiographies
- none of them have any allergies you need to worry about
and after lunch they can have 2 Oreos, for lunch they can have leftover pizza, pasta or peanut butter and banana sandwiches

Jim did really well. Lol. These are the texts he sent Maria.

The plan is to leave Flamingo at 9am with Mom and Dad today to go to Playa Negra to see a new house possibility for next year.  I put a refundable deposit down on a house a few months ago to hold it for next December and we want to go down and see the area, see the house, see the beach, check out the restaurants, see how far the closest market is.  The drive is about an hour from Flamingo which would mean that its a little further from the airport, likely an hour and a half instead of an hour.

I had directions from Gina, the property manager, and google mapped it and whatsapped her that we were on our way to Playa Negra.  The drive was mostly paved road except for the last 20 minutes or so, and the last 5 minutes was especially bad, rutted, road - good thing we have an SUV because Mom and Dad's car would never make it down that road!  We found the house with only 3 missed turns (it seems like when the directions say to turn left in 100m that really its only 50m down the road) - and one time I said to Mom "Is this the turn" and she said "No, it will say Road 160", we missed it, turned back and she said "I didn't see the sign that said Road 160"  I said 'None of the roads down here have signs, why are you expecting this road to be any different'.

There is no way you can grasp how bad this road is.

The house was ok, it was musty smelling but that's because its been closed and is just being opened up for the season.  The pool was nice, and there was a view onto the beach with direct access below, but there was NO shade on the pool or the deck in the afternoon from 2-5 and you definitely need shade.  The bedroom configuration was good - 5 bedrooms with 2 Kings on the main floor and 3 bedrooms a King and two Queens on the second floor.  But we're also hoping maybe the Faust's might be able to join next year in which case we'll need at minimum one more bedroom depending on how many of them come.  None of us took any photos of the house, lol, that's how uninterested we were in getting it next year.

We also drove over to Playa Avellanas which is supposed to be a nearby, nice sand beach with some waves for the kids, but there were Rip Current Caution signs on the beach, which is not cool.  We ultimately all agreed that we'd prefer to be in Flamingo, the waves are fun and there is no rip current, the beach is gorgeous, the bay is amazing and we know all the local restaurants are good with a few of them within walking distance.  On the drive over though we saw a large troop of howler monkeys so stopped as they crossed the road over our car, the last a mother with a baby on her back who came across the road hand over hand hanging from the wire and into the tree.

We decided to come home and eat leftovers for lunch since we're going out to Angelina's for dinner tonight with everyone, including the Corey's and Maddy's friend Juliette.  They've rented a condo on the beach in Flamingo and are here for 2 weeks, 10 days of which overlap with us.

As soon as Jay walks in the door it starts to rain.  lol, but its doesn't last long and then the sun is out between the clouds every now and then.  Its probably good that they had some cloud for their first afternoon because it can be HOT here!

I had sent a text to Jay about the duty free and what to pick up.

I learned when he got home that he picked up the tequila but not any more Ron Zacapa - he thought it was enough.  Up to this point we've gone through about 3/4 of a bottle of Ron Zacapa - we went through the same amount TODAY.  So now we only have 2 1/4 bottles of Ron left, Jay's not going to be happy with paying full pop at the grocery store, and some of them don't carry Ron Zacapa at all!

Sarah and Anthony came up to the house in the afternoon for a drink to join us before dinner, just enough time for a swim in the pool and a drink.

Trev had a nap in the afternoon and then joined us for dinner...oh wait, no he didn't.

As we walked down to the restaurant a big guy on a scooter passed our group walking.  Jay made a comment like "No matter how cool you are, a dude can't look cool on a scooter" and Anthony said "If you ride a scooter, you need a cooter".  They then figured that they would go into marketing t-shirts down here.

Angelina's was delicious again - Maria and I shared a burrata, then shared the pork chop for dinner.

I just drank water with dinner (smart move after the 4 pina coladas in the pool yesterday afternoon!).  Jay ordered a 30 oz Porter House steak and Mom said that if he could eat it all she would give him $100 - good thing because he didn't ask how much it was and it was $95USD!!

Jim had pizza

Jay and Anthony also had martinis, Jay had a watermelon martini and Anthony had pineapple upside down cake martini,

Sarah and Jim had wine and Mom had beer.  Jay kept joking that he would give Trev the "bone" but in the end Mom had the bone!

During dinner the girls did a water glass symphony. Almost all of them, but especially Juliette could make her water glass sing.

Sarah and Anthony said their first impression of Playa Flamingo has been great and they'd be interested in renting their place again next year!

Day 6 - Tour of a local Island

I set my alarm for 8am today because Jay and I have booked a tour to a local island by speed boat and it leaves around 10am.  I wake up ever...
