Tamarindo - Day 2

Maria and I went for a walk up the South Ridge this morning. Neither of us was feeling like doing a full workout, even though this was because it’s up and steep.

We had forgotten to take our sweaty selfie when we came back from our walk. By this time I’d showered but we got a shot.

Then I said “Wait a second, let me tuck those puppies in and get another one”

Maria enjoyed a breakfast beverage - sour cut with Imperial Light (that was an actual conscious decision, we have Imperial and Imperial Light because it was 10am). I floated in the pool for a while and enjoyed the view.

When we came back from the beach to get changed I heard a knock on the back door. I opened the door and it was Jim!  He couldn’t find our unit from the ocean side because they all look identical and have no numbers. Lol. There are numbers on the back doors.

I sent an email this morning to the owner of our unit and also a rep at the resort asking if any of his other units (I know a bunch of them own 5 units all together) aren’t rented could we move some of the chairs onto our patio. When we came back later we had a table and chairs set up for us, I think we still may move the chairs from Jim and Maria’s balcony down to the patio though because all we have is a chair and a lounger, both very comfortable.

The goal was to leave for Tamarindo around noonish, I said to Sarah and Anthony I need to get the girls out of the ocean before they’re beyond tired and hungry so we don’t have a complete meltdown - we didn’t quite make it, it was a little after 1pm by the time we got going. Paige had a very saucy incident before we left which ended by me saying “Are you hungry?” “No” “The smart answer would be ‘yes Mom, I’m hungry and I’m sorry for my behaviour’”.  It cost her her spot in the Corey’s car on the way to Tamarindo, which she actually handled well considering it meant her sister got her spot.

We got to Tamarindo and The Ocean restaurant has CLOSED!!  WTF is going on. It’s now called People and it sucked. It wasn’t BAD, and the Sangria was excellent (I had a coke light because I’m driving (and I had had the breakfast beverage earlier so that’s my one, even though it was hours ago) but I tasted Maria’s) but overall no one was overly impressed with their lunch which means we have to find a new restaurant on the beach in Tamarindo when we go in.

I took the girls out to a couple of shops while everyone finished up and paid the bill. No one wanted to do any shopping. The girls had all spent a lot of time in the water and not reapplied sunscreen. Rookie mistake. Sophie bought a cute white and pink pineapple 3 hook decoration for her room.

I don’t think I’ll make the drive to Tamarindo again this trip, usually we do go in twice but we have our main grocery shop done and we might go to Playa Cocoa mid trip to do a little shopping and for something different.

On the way home, and I don’t even know how we got on the subject, we talked about putting bandaids - ah, yes I know. We talked about how the rash guards saved the kids from getting too burnt today and that they were designed to stop Board rash. From there Jay said his nipples chafed when we ran his half marathon and I asked why he didn’t use bandaids on his nipples to stop it, then we got talking about tassels (also known as jangles) and butt butter. All in all a learning conversation for Sophie, who was in our car on the way home, until she tells someone else that her Dad puts butt cream on while wearing jangle tassels.

We stopped at Surfbox and got milkshakes, Jays idea. Jay got the peanut butter one he loves, Maria got coffee and the kids all got Oreo. Jim and I saved ourselves for sours :). It was about 4:20 at this point, I had asked Maria to google the hours because I thought Surfbox closed early, like 2pm daily. They’ve added a dinner menu and are open until 8pm every day!

I think it was about 4:30pm when we got back to the condo. We poured a sour and went down to the beach to enjoy the sunset, which is about 5:20pm.

At sunset Anthony pulled the girls out of the ocean and they asked why. He said “Search and rescue gets a little harder in the dark”. Lol. So they moved to the pool.

On the beach we explained the Shocker to Jim, which (shockingly) Anthony hasn’t even pulled out yet, and went on to say all the little sayings we could remember  and had a bunch of laughs.

I said to Sarah I can’t wait to do nothing tomorrow. She said “what do we have planned for tomorrow?”  Nothing. Lol.

We didn’t have dinner. Rookie mistake. Lol. From here the night gets a little blurry (as do Maria’s photos).

The girls made ginger bread houses that the Corey’s brought. Paige worked with Maddy and Sophie worked with Ava.

We sat on the patio and played 5 Crowns. I refreshed the game to Jim while we waited for everyone, they’ve played with us once. He said “I remember I kept giving away wild cards”. So I pointed to the chair to my left and said “so you sit here then”.

Jay was trying to do something on Maria’s computer and it wouldn’t work. The password wouldn’t take and she was like “I was just on it”. He tried it like 20 times before he came over to the Corey’s with it. She watched him type it in as she had written it for him, twice, then said “let me try. See?  In....oh...I wrote it down wrong” lol. Jay figures it was him because electronics don’t like him.

At one point Maria went back to our place and brought over the leftover pizza and warmed it up. So I guess we did have a dinner of sorts, one piece per person.

I have a note that says “This is going in the blog” and “I still don’t understand how that happened?!” And can hear Sarah saying it in my head but have zero, ZERO, idea what it means.

Final verdict, Maddy and Paige (top) win for best house. Maddy said “well yeah, I mean they ate all their people. And their chimney”. You don’t have a chimney. “We ate ours too”.

We have no more photos because as soon as we finished 5 Crowns Maria scooped up her stuff and said, as she turns “love you guys, bye”. Her version of “Middleton Out”.  We were just like ‘what just happened?’
