Every day is Saturday - a long, boring Saturday.
Last night we told the girls if they want to do sleepovers every other night with Myah and Avery during this isolation that sometimes they’re going to have to go there. They know and love Steve and Julia, I don’t know why they sometimes get nervous going anywhere, but especially there where they’ve been a million and one times. Once they do it once they’ll be fine its just been a while since they’ve spent the night there so the process just starts over. We love Myah and Avery too and have absolutely no problem having them here, its a welcome distraction for the girls, but a night on our own would be nice too. A quiet night. Sometimes the girls need a push and some pressure, especially when its something so brainless as a sleepover with their best friends.
I spilled the smoothie I was making this morning all over the floor..a whole vitamix full of almond milk and yogurt, so that’s our excitement for this morning.
Jay is taking the truck over to Jamie’s to use his shop tools to change the tires over to the summers. Jamie’s shop has been closed between the plowing and grass cutting seasons. Then he’ll take the girls over to the Faust’s for the day to hang out and, hopefully, sleep over. He said that Jamie has a zero turn lawn mower for sale - I told Jay keep in mind we only pay $125 every other week to get our grass cut and he would have to decide between trees and a lawn mower. He chose trees.
I need Trevor to fix my email! He took my computer to fix something small, discovered it was about 4 updates behind (it was working fine...memories of the New Yorker), took it home to “fix it” and now its all screwed up. My email is full and bouncing - but I think he can fix the sync to my laptop so that once my Mac mail receives the email it keep is and my Compton email deletes emails after 14 days since I only have 250 MB of storage which seems ridiculous. I need the Compton just as a flow through. I do have a new email address that I need to get out to people, dana@danamiddleton.ca, I can spend the next month letting people know. HaHa.
Maggie did one of my favourite drop offs yet - Beer and chocolate milk! Thanks Mags, there is a rumour the LCBO might be closing, not sure but might as well stock up.
She came just as we were getting back from Mom and Dad’s picking up firewood and the trailer for the ATV. Jay will get the girls out doing some work and get some top soil delivered so that once he makes the gardens we can move it over to the garden beds with the ATV. We chatted with Mom and Dad for a few minutes outside, standing 10 feet away from each other. Their drive was uneventful. They still have friends in the US who didn’t come home yet for various reasons.
Jay has turned a corner, he’s not as stressed about work because now its out of his control, with the nurses not doing physicals and the insurance companies on a work from home policy. He also did a calculation on how much money we would spend if we can’t work for 6 months and is comfortable that we can pay all our bills and not deplete our savings - so he’ll start the gardens and do more yard clean up and still meet with clients via phone to prepare them for when the situation changes so they can ramp up quickly, but other than that he’s relaxed.
I came inside and got a text from my neighbour, Kerry, her daughter Sarah picked up something for me and is dropping it off - I guess as a thank you for the cookies the other day? She has her drivers license and is out driving with her Dad - what craziness is that! Super sweet that she picked something up for us, Kerry said she had NOTHING to do with it. And to not get too excited. Lol. I’ll drop her off some Mars bar Rice Krispie squares when I make them tomorrow. I asked Kate if she would mind dropping off Mars bars today or tomorrow and giving me her recipe for the squares, she makes them and brings them up to the cottage usually, they’re so good.
I sent this to Julia and Sarah Corey - they must be mentally exhausted having to remind themselves not to hug anyone right now.
It’s funny because I sent it via WhatsApp to Sarah and Anthony saying “just checking in on you guys” and then about 10 minutes later got a text from Sarah asking if we were ok and how we were doing - so I went back to WhatsApp and my message hadn’t sent. Turns out when I got my new phone I had to sign in to WhatsApp for it to work so I had A LOT of messages that popped up. But the funny part is we must have been thinking of each other at the same time because we both checked in on each other in a 10 minute window.
I just saw Derek come up to the door - this is what I got from Sarah! Lol.
Shortly after we got the sugar I got a text from Kate that the Mars Bars were on the porch. She said that it was funny that Olivia had asked yesterday when Kate came home with Rice Krispies if she could get Mars bars to make the squares and then I asked today. Great minds think alike!
Our 3rd porch drop off today! Well 4th if you count the surprise sugar :) Julia dropped by the coffee that I ordered. I stood outside talking to her for a while (more than 6’ apart from each other), heard a funny story about Tom falling down and splitting his head. I won’t put it all in here because its not my story and not my place, but he’ll always remember it because of the stitches and scar on his head. To quote Cousin Eddie “My part just wouldn’t lay quite right”.
Trev came over for dinner and to fix my email. Since he decided not to go see Patricia he’s still in our isolation family. I think he got it all figured out and set up so that its all running smoothly now.
We had flank steak with the kalbi sauce on it that I had in the freezer and a salad. It was delicious. Then we sat and had a beer by the fire before he headed home.
Google Ads are at it again - all of the sudden I’m getting ads for raised garden beds because we talked about it and I wrote about it in yesterdays blog. I haven’t searched for it at all.
Paige asked that we call them before we go to bed so we did and let her know that we would keep our ringer on if she needed us. She was totally fine. She texted me earlier that her tummy hurt but I think even that I replied immediately made her feel better.
Coronavirus count for the night - the US moves into 3rd place and since Day 2 the total count has gone from 200,000 to over 300,000 - which has got to, in reality, be much higher since very few people in Canada seem to be actually being tested. No real ‘news’ today because it’s Saturday I guess.
