Jay is up and gone for a run with Steve and Trev, they’re meeting up at the Faust’s and then he will pick up the girls and bring them back here. It’s sunny out but don’t let that fool you it’s COLD outside today. I think Jay said we’re supposed to maybe get snow? Yup, Monday, but not enough to stay on the ground, 1-3cm.
A couple of days ago there was rain and wind and some people had their power out - Sunderland, Leaskdale, Greenbank and Bev’s was out on the 8th Conc. We have a generator so we’re ok for as long as our propane would last, which is about 4 days if it were going 24 hours. But we can turn it on and off manually if it ever looked like we were going to be out of power for more than that, probably stretch it to 8 to 12 days? No idea. I don’t know why, other than the major black out that happened in 2003, we would be out of power for that long.
I watched two episodes of Ozarks yesterday. I haven’t watched my iPad or TV really (we have a TV in the basement but we’ve only watched one movie and played Wii on it since we moved in 9 months ago and we really didn’t watch TV at my parents when we lived there while we built the house) in about a year I would say. Jay watches his iPad daily but I read so I have a book subscription like Netflix through Kindle where I pay $12 a month and get access to hundreds of thousands of free books to download. You can only have 10 at a time on your device, but all you need is wifi to get another book whenever you need and return one that you’ve already read.
I sent a text to Julia, Avery and Sarah to ask if they want to start doing circuit in the basement tomorrow for 30 mins a day. Sarah said she would, but she thinks Uxbridge is going to be locked down as of tomorrow with $1,000 fines for being off your property. I think this is inevitable even if it doesn’t happen tomorrow. I texted Trev and relayed the info and said if he wants to be locked down here with us he can, but full disclosure we’ll have 2 whiny kids and super crappy internet.
I watched another episode of Ozarks and now its about 11am so I’m going to bake my Mars bars Rice Krispies.
I did a double batch in two pots - so per the recipe its 4 Mars bars cut up, 1/4 cup of butter, 2 cups of marshmallows and then 4 cups of Rice Krispies. I decided I wanted ours to go a little further and it looked like there was still lots of liquid so I just added another 1/4 c of butter and another 2 cups of Rice Krispies. They won’t be as sweet or dense as the ones Kate makes but will still be good. Then a mix of dark and milk chocolate chips on top and toss them in the oven to melt the chocolate. I also didn’t do as much chocolate as Kate usually does.
When Jay got home he could smell that I had baked something and went on the hunt. That man can scope out Rice Krispies squares a mile away I swear. I made a double batch, one to take to Sarah’s tonight and one to have here and share with our neighbours.
Making lunch we’re trying not to be wasteful at all with food and we have some cold meat in the fridge so we finished it off with sandwiches and I pulled out some olives. I said to Jay “Do olives really go bad? And really, how would you know?” Lol. I used to hate olives until my Mom and I went to Italy when I was 35, now I love olives.
The girls should be home around 2pm from Julia’s house, she has to do a grocery pick up at Zehrs then and so will drop them off after.
Jay and I did some work this afternoon in the yard. We took apart the ice rink and plan to use the wood for our garden beds.
When I got sent to get a new battery for the drill I took some pictures of the dogs. I couldn’t find the battery so Jay had to come in and tear the cupboard apart. I’m glad he couldn’t find it either! He eventually did find it and I could get back to removing screws from the boards.
After finishing up as much as we could of the rink dismantling Jay asked if I wanted to come down and keep him company while he raked the gravel that had been plowed into the grass back onto the driveway down at the bottom. The day had warmed up, so we went down with the ATV and trailer and raked leaves and gravel and then came back up and dumped them at the back of the property in the forest.
Paige came down at one point to ask Jay if he had made a decision on the garden design, hers or Sophie’s because Sophie said that “Dad said mine was more functional so it he would be building mine”. Good lord. But she looked super cute so I took a picture. Haha.
The girls took the ATV over to Kerry’s and picked up a couple of puzzles that she was willing to lend out and dropped off some of the Mars squares. By the time they came back I had the kraft dinner they had on the stove almost finished and they had some food and got started on the puzzles. Immediately it was a contest - Paige and Myah vs Sophie and Avery...later on Paige said to me “I don’t like puzzles, they’re stressful”. Well, most people don’t make puzzle making a competition so its usually actually very calming.
I sent a text to Kerry to thank her for the puzzles and she said that they enjoyed the Rice Krispie treats and that Sarah was putting another surprise together for us - this could be a fun little exchange between Sarah and I for the next little while :).
And her cookies were delicious! Peanut butter is my favourite and not a cookie I usually make. They were moist and so so yummy! She arrived in her super cute yellow VW Bug which she bought herself! She bought it in August and her goal was to have paid her parents back by the time she got her G2, the first step in the graduated licensing program, now she’s driving and she’s paid back her loan - pretty impressive. I waved and thanked her through the window when she dropped them off and had put out some more treats for her since we didn’t end up going to Sarah’s for dinner tonight and now we have LOTS. I gave some to Steve and some to Trev when they left after their workout and I have a container to drop off to Sarah’s house tomorrow to her porch.
Jay and the girls went out on the trampoline for a while and when they came back we did the puzzles as a family...which only lasted so long. I believe Jay told Sophie she was the worst puzzle piece finder in the world. She may have been repeating the same thing over and over - like “looking for the puzzle piece, looking for the puzzle piece, looking for the puzzle piece”
I joined Paige on her puzzle on the other end of the table. Both puzzles made pretty good progress before we quit for the night.
News today -
Nova Scotia is taking harder action on people who are ignoring the 14 day self-isolation, if caught outside the home they’re issuing $1,000 fines.
The PM said that he will allow the Provinces and Municipalities to take action on lock downs as opposed to mandating them from a Federal level at the moment.
The Premier said that he will not hesitate to impose lock down protocols if the Minister of Health recommends the action, he keeps repeating “Nothing is off the table”. He’s actually doing a pretty good job at his press conferences, he isn’t making any stupid statements and is referring questions to experts when asked.
Numbers for tonight:
US had so many new cases today it makes up almost 1/3 of their total number.
