Quebec announced yesterday they were closing all elementary and high schools until May, extending from the original April 6th date. They also announced that all day cares will remain closed with the exception of emergency child care centres for those essential workers, which includes all healthcare workers, police officers and fire fighters but doesn’t include grocery store or pharmacy workers. They asked that all malls and stores close as of midnight Sunday.
Trudeau is about to hold his daily press conference. He’s expected to speak on assistance for farmers (which he didn’t) but also fines to be imposed for people who are not self-isolating upon return from anywhere outside of Canada (which he also didn’t). His address was more about just advising that $192M would be set aside for vaccine production. There was nothing additional on isolating beyond the people who have been outside of Canada. He is meeting with the Premiers later today, they will be discussing the Emergencies Act which gives Quarantine authority to the Federal level - this was put in place in 2005 in response to SARS. At this point he is leaving the authority with the Municipalities and Provinces. He is still appealing to citizens to choose to self-isolate and practice social distancing, which they are now calling physical distancing because some people were too stupid to understand that social distancing means staying 6’ away from other people.
The Canadian Olympic teams decided not to participate in the 2020 summer olympics in Tokyo this year, afterward Australia did as well. There is hope that the IOC will postpone the Olympic Games until next summer.
I created a spreadsheet on google sheets for Mom and I to share as we share groceries between our two homes. Mom doesn’t have any peanut butter, so I ordered 2 large peanut butters through Amazon Prime, one for her and one for us and she asked if I wanted her to replace it or just to pay me. I don’t really care about either, but we also decided since we are staggered for our grocery pick ups, I’m Wednesday and she is Saturday that if she needs anything she can add it to mine and if I need anything I’ll add it to hers as the grocery pick up times continue to get longer between when you order and when you can pick up as the service becomes more in demand. I got notice yesterday that my Costco order had shipped yesterday so I’ll watch for that as well. I went on to order some other stuff from Costco today and there isn’t really anything available that I would want.
Jay and I are working on the puzzles still.
Ford spoke today at his daily press conference. All non-essential businesses are now told they have to close by tomorrow night, Tuesday, at midnight, a list of what will be considered essential will be announced tomorrow. Also, schools will not be going back on April 6th but they’ll let us know when it will happen. Only leaving your house if you must to get groceries, medication or you work in an essential service - “we must get ahead of the virus and flatten the curve..(so as not to overwhelm the healthcare system)”. So far this is still a request and not a requirement, it doesn’t sound like they plan to enforce this as they are still following the recommendations of the Health Minister on gatherings of 50 people of less. Business closures will be enforced via fines and law enforcements if, and when, necessary. Press is questioning why there is not a mandatory stay home order which could be enforced by police, his answer is that people have to be responsible themselves, work and act together - there are 14.5 Million people in Ontario and resources would be spread too thin..the job is to put the resources towards health care currently.
Jay and I worked on the puzzles some more. Lol.
Steve, Kobe and Trev came over for a workout. Myah and Avery came for a sleepover, so now the girls are completing the puzzles and saying they did them...whatever, we know the truth!
The girls are still out working on the puzzles, Paige almost destroyed the puzzle that I was making. BEFORE I FINISHED IT!! Uh, no. That’s just rude.
There are two pieces missing from the Pocohontas puzzle and at least two from the one I was making. An edge and part of Minnie’s face. I’ll finish it tomorrow and take it back to Kerry.
We had dinner and as I was looking for the pink salt to fill the grinder I moved 1kg bag of chocolate chips that I just got in my grocery order and if was almost empty! I used it, probably 1.5 cups, yesterday to top the Rice Krispies but then turned to the girls “who was eating the chocolate chips?” Good thing all 4 of them were here because they were all guilty! No more treats for them tonight. They ate them yesterday while Jay and I were down doing the yard work.
Just watched a video Dave Barton put out. He did have to close all the outdoor spaces today. No more access to the parks, playgrounds, pump park or skate park. He doesn’t want to have to close the trails but says if we end up with a lot of out of town users and the distanced becomes an issue he will.
A lot of news today. We didn’t do too much. I spent an hour on my client call and did some work today and the day flew by.
