I woke up this morning when Jay went for a run with Steve at 8:15am. Not bad as far as a sleep goes considering I think I went to bed at around 10pm last night. Solid sleep. It was cool in our room and I slept with my down sweatshirt on. The bed is comfortable and has a nice thick comforter and good pillows.
I came downstairs and wrote the blog and was shortly joined by Sarah and Julia. Steve and Jay came back from their run around 9:15am - they ran in matching outfits...so cute.
Apparently Dwayne and Lea had been up since 6:15am when Matty woke up. They broke it to the kids that Disney was closed and a (very quiet) meltdown ensued (that no one heard). Everything to a 7 and 5 year old seems like the best or worst thing ever - Lea said to them “We will come back next year” “Next YEAR?!?” “Disney is closed FOREVER, I hate Coronavirus”. Then they went for a swim :). Matty looks devastated. Swimming is the best.
I finished off the blog and Sarah, Julia and I went to the grocery store to top up on some essentials (more White Claw and Corona Seltzer’s, coconut cream (which I couldn’t find yesterday) and vodka. Lol. Essentials). We also bought 12 frozen pizzas, cookies, chips and salsa, cheese and crackers and some other stuff.
This morning has been a bit of a dilemma, what a difference a day makes. Leanne is on the phone with Westjet, well she’s on hold, to see if they can get a flight home early. I suggested that if getting home is really important to them they just book a flight home and then deal with the return flight they already have after. Its only $250pp to fly home for them, if $1,000 is worth the worry then just go because you’re never going to get through to anyone today. Jay would like to talk about going home early but I really don’t want to. Trev is a little stressed out, he’s slightly twitchy, if you know Trev you know what I mean. I finally said to Jay “Are you worried about us getting sick or are you worried about getting quarantined for work? If you’re worried about the girls getting sick we’ll go home (No, he’s not worried about us getting sick) if you’re worried about the 14 day quarantine for work then you are welcome to go home, but I’m going to stay here. I would never stay here if you’re worried about us getting sick, but otherwise I’d rather be in the sun”. Just in case we can’t fly home (you never know) we’ve got a Suburban rented from Budget for the day we’re supposed to leave so that we can drive home. Plan B.
The grocery store was normal, not super busy. No toilet paper. Tonnes of Kleenex though, people haven’t figured out that its just fancy toilet paper yet I guess. We didn’t buy any either - we figure the 12 rolls we bought the other day for 17 of us for a week is still sufficient.
Sarah went into the liquor store next door to the grocery store and came out and said that a large bottle of Tito’s Vodka was only $1 more than the small bottle. When I got home and unpacked the bags I said to Julia “Oh my god, this is the large bottle of Tito’s?” We figure we are sanitizing from the inside out.
We got back around 12:45pm. The rest of the crew had taken the kids to the resort water park for the morning. We texted them to let them know we were on our way back and then when we got home, got everything organized and unpacked we went for a swim in the pool to cool off with a beverage.
Paige stepped on a rock. Later we found a piece of glass over where she was so she may have stepped on glass. It didn’t break the skin. Myah has stepped on something yesterday and got a cut so we are hoping now we got the glass it’s gone and there isn’t more.
Fast forward several hours later, we didn’t do anything but sit in the pool to cool off with beverages for that time. During this time I explained Vacation Jay to Leanne. Vacation Jay is like regular Jay only he sleeps 12 hours a night and has 2 naps a day..which makes him more fun because regular Jay is sleep deprived. Regular Jay sleeps 8 hours a night but usually wakes up in the middle of that and reads or watches his iPad either once or twice through the night, gets up a 6am and works out (runs or gets on his bike) or goes to work if he’s going downtown, gets home at 4pm and works for 2 hours, has dinner, works for another 2 hours and then goes to bed. If the girls have an activity he comes to watch (practices, games, anything they are doing), but otherwise he’s working. Vacation Jay is the only reason regular Jay survives - he catches up on all that sleep he missed in the 3-4 months since our last vacation.
Because of the several hours lounging and beveraging I had to use the bathroom like 6 times! Every time I’d get out of the pool, wrap myself in a towel and then go through the house trying not to drip on the tile floor, because it gets slippery, go pee and then come back out. About 4:30pm Trev got out and said I’ve got to go to the bathroom and went to this door.
I said “That is a BATHROOM?!?” None of us girls had any idea!
We are REALLY enjoying hydrating with the White Claw and the Corona Seltzers. Juls said “I love how hydrated I feel, I‘m totally hydrated right now!” I said “I’ll tell you tomorrow how hydrated I feel after today” (you know I write these the next day, so I’ll end the suspense, I feel totally hydrated no headache, no sugar headache either even though at the end of the night I had two mules). Trev made a slip of the tongue and said “So far the tangerine White Claw and the blackberry lime Coronavirus are my favourite - I mean Corona seltzer”
The kids want to go back to the water park so Juls, Sarah, Dwayne, Lea and I walk down with them. Sophie went on the water slides this morning!! Yippee! I knew that she would like it once she went down once and she did! She was bribed by Avery who owes her 4 chocolate bars and the lifeguard who has to go on the green slide, lol.

Some of my favourite photos are the ones that aren’t so perfect.

Matty doesn’t like getting his picture taken. 😆

Back to the house about 6:30pm. This is what the front hall looks like when you have 17 people in a house!

We were supposed to arrive to pizzas cooked but didn’t. Dwayne said “Now I know how disappointed you are when your husband’s don’t have dinner ready when they should”. Lol. Lea did the pizzas. Then she booked their flights home for tomorrow. Trev is still twitchy it’s 50/50 what he decides to do. Trump made a speech this afternoon and Trudeau made a speech as well today and confirmed that his wife, Sophie, has tested positive for COVID-19. A few days ago Trump stopped incoming flights from the EU. Someone said they thought that he had announced or was announcing no international flights at all into the US, but I haven’t seen anything to that effect yet. Avery Conrod wasn’t super happy about the flight home, she said “We only got one full day here? That is HORRIBLE.” Yeah totally sucks, but we’ll just have to pick it up where we left it off next year - maybe do 4 days here and 4 days on the beach next time. Lea thinks they can’t cancel the tickets they pre-bought with Disney for a refund but can get a credit, so they’ll need to come back regardless. I think the decision is to skip the parks completely at this time, even for those of us staying, and just do it next time. My girls were unlikely to go on a ride anyway and Sophie had decided she didn’t even want to go to the park so its fine for us. We’re enjoying the pool and the water park here at the resort and tomorrow we will go to do something fun.
At about 9pm I decided I was going to go to bed and work on the blog for the morning - about the time Julia said “Let’s play a game!” I love games, but after drinking from 1pm onward bed time is usually pretty early for me. Vacation is up early and then to bed early, I love the sun and I love the pool and the drinks and bring social - I can only do it until I’m done and I’m done when I’m done.
