Jay got up this morning to do a ride on his trainer at 5am. He’s really hoping that his Iron Man booked for California in July isn’t cancelled but I’m not hopeful. At this point I’m hoping our Scotland trip in September is still a go and worst case scenario our trip to Costa Rica in December is salvaged. We were planning an 18 day trip to Africa in May 2021 but that was before we lost a crap tonne of money in our investments so I’m not sure where that plan lies, we haven’t even discussed booking that one.
I missed the first part of Doug Ford’s Press Conference but I’m streaming it now:
He is asking for everyone to continue to stay home, that if we had done nothing we may have suffered the loss of 100,000 lives in Ontario. The early efforts to flatten the curve have worked and we can expect between 3,000-15,000 Ontarians. They warn this is no time for complacency and we must remain vigilant.
Trump invoked the Defence Production Act in the US yesterday, ensuring that production in the US and abroad but by US companies, like 3M, of PPE comes only to the US and they are not shipping worldwide, including to Canada. Ford says never again will he rely on the production capacity of outside companies, Ontario is the engineering and manufacturing hub of Canada and we will ramp up our production of PPE for all of Canada. Ford has really handled the press conferences so well.
Ontario is shutting down all but non-essential construction. The previous list of essential businesses was 74 and has been shaved down to 44 essential areas. He states we have essentially shut down the economy in an effort to reduce exposure to COVID-19.
He is not ruling out a lock down, however at this point he is still encouraging everyone to social distance and stay home. Discussions with the PM have been had, they’re hoping not to invoke a lock down per the authority of the Emergencies Act.
While I listened to my webinar this afternoon for work I baked Jay his cookies. I made Jan’s Skor Cookies, Jan is a friend of my Mom’s from high school. When I get a recipe from someone I always put their name on it so I can remember where it came from.
I doubled the recipe and it made A LOT of cookies! Jay wasn’t sure he would have enough to share.
We packed them up and made baggies for Gram and Grampa, Uncle Matt and Auntie and some to take to the Faust’s later. Also some for Kerry and Sarah our neighbours.
I also made my Dad’s favourite Chocolate Burrs.
Sophie and I made the deliveries and chatted with Gram and Grampa and then with Uncle Matt, Auntie, Jack and Anna through their window while Eddie tried to climb out the windows to see us. Haha.
Paige wanted Buddha Bowls for dinner so I called to see if Thai Village is open for pick up and got some Crispy Ginger Beef and Chicken and some steamed rice for our bowls.
What a beautiful Buddha Bowl looks like.
How you really eat it.
After dinner I got my Mom, Dad, Maria, Jim and the girls all set up on House Party so that we can do a video chat. Tomorrow we are doing a tailgate chat out in Julia’s back field, the cars spaced out in a circle so that we can see each other, so I invited Maria up for that for 9:30am.
We went to the Faust’s for game night. We lost Trev tonight, he went to see Patricia. We won’t see him again until he’s been isolated for 14 days, which if he continues to see Patricia during this time means that we won’t see him again until its all over. He came over for a last workout with Jay before he went down tonight. I hope he’s not lonely when he gets back, living by yourself is got to be hard, he spends a lot of time here and it will be weird not to have him around.
We played a game of Survive first, which is fun and strategic but a little slow. Then we played a game with Kobe, then 3 games of Supertock (which Julia and I won 2 of 3) then we played Karma and Quiddler - I think I will get those two games for us, they’re fun and the girls can play them too.
I asked Sophie if she could grab me a glass of water and when she protested I said “I gave birth to you”..she muttered “barely”. LMAO, that’s because of the C-section ungrateful minion.
We got home and the girls were asleep in minutes.
